Amigas & Amigos, Cinco de Mayo has passed us by & now we await una mas ano for the next return of the Battle of Puebla remembrance of which many a Tequila bottle is opened and emptied.
This last week was the week in which ARIZONA was honored by Arizona Author & Writer, Rico Austin in Annette Synder's, "Fifty Authors from Fifty States," in which each week a new state is promoted through the writings of one selected Author from that state.   It is with great honor that I write about the place of which I LOVE & LIVE - ARIZONA, called the Grand Canyon State and/or the Copper State.

May 19, 2013

Arizona – I know about the Grand Canyon!

"Rico Austin is my name, living and writing in Arizona is my game. I was born and raised in Southwest Idaho, along the banks of the Snake River and couldn’t wait to find my own way and independence. I have lived in California, Hawaii, South Carolina, the United Kingdom and in Lithuania for a short time; but, Arizona is where I felt comfortable, from the very first saguaro cactus of which my eyes savored, to the last scorpion I witnessed crossing my path this afternoon. My very, first visit was through the entire state of Arizona in 1986, during a Spring Break trip gone heavily awry. This trip on an old, school bus was the basis for the award winning, bestselling novel, “My Bad Tequila.” My favorite line from the book is, “You’ll see the true reflection of me when the tequila bottle is empty,” I shouted out to the wind as I tossed the sad, angry, bottle-shaped mirror to the sea.“Arizona Is Where I Live,” is not only a statement of which I announce with pride, it is now a Children’s book that is a masterful, learning display of the Sonoran Desert, the mountains, the lakes, the Grand Canyon and of the animals that make Arizona one of the most unique and interesting states in the union.

Arizona has been touted as the state that has everything, except an ocean. Whoa, there pardner! We do have an ocean, the world’s smallest, which is located in Biosphere 2, which is a world-renowned environmental and ecological research site operated by the University of Arizona about 30 miles northwest of Tucson. The Biosphere Ocean houses 676,000 gallons of seawater and has a coral reef. Also, if a couple of early surveyors wouldn’t have been so lazy about 125 years ago, Arizona would border the northeast part of the Sea of Cortez; but, these surveyors figured Arizona was large enough, wanted to get home to their families and decided to cut through the territory leaving a bit extra for our amigos and amigas in Mexico, near the Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) area.

There is more adventure and mystery in Arizona’s many towns and cities than in some countries combined. When tourists and visitors arrive in our great Copper State, most congregate to either the Phoenix / Scottsdale area, Tucson or up north to Flagstaff, which all areas are great, fun, artistic destinations, with plenty of interesting things to keep them entertained. My advice is, if in Flagstaff, take time to head south about 30 miles to Sedona through Oak Creek Canyon on Highway 89, then continue south a bit farther to visit Jerome, the mining town of past, now an artist mecca, that is built on the side of a mountain. Sedona, with it’s red rock mountains and majestic canyons is where Mr. Walt Disney would bring his illustrators to capture with their brushes, the many hues of reds, browns and oranges blended with the many shades of greens, blues and purples.

If, your vacation plans have your arrival into Tucson, then by all means visit Tombstone, “The town too tough to die,” and see firsthand, the OK Corral, made famous by the gunfight of lawmen Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and the Earp brothers, (the good guys) versus the (bad guys), outlaw cowboys, the Clanton Brothers, the McLaury Brothers, and Billy Claiborne.

Also, former mining towns, Bisbee and Douglas should receive your visited attention just north of the border.
Add captionNow, in regards to relaxation and sun soaking in the Phoenix or Scottsdale area, the cowboy town of Cave Creek, just north of Scottsdale by 15 miles is a must visit. It is here in this western town that I had the chance meeting of the legitimate, illegitimate son of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and have written his true story that intertwines with mine, “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter.” Some of the restaurants still have hitching posts to tie up the ponies as cowgirls and cowboys go in for a quick bite or to whet their whistle.Arizona is the Wild West; the wild west, where I dreamed of living when growing up, playing cowboys and Indians with my four younger brothers and numerous cousins. I longed to live in a time and place where if you had a fast gun and a fast horse your chances of survival were greatly increased. I am living the dream; where cowboys, horses, saloons and tequila abound.

When my time on earth is no more, I want to be buried in my boots, six feet under, covered with Arizona soil."

Hola Amigas & Amigos of “My Bad Tequila” and Author, Writer, Rico Austin.

Can YOU believe it?  April is nearly over with its Showers that will soon bring the Flowers of May and my beloved holiday, “Cinco de Mayo” !!!!.

Well, it has been a busy and glorious month of April with some great tequila tastings, some great music taken in and my first, book signings of my newest, exciting biography / memoir / autobiography of “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter.”   It has also been during this month that I visited and talked before high school students in Lakeside, Arizona at Blue Ridge High School on career day about being an Author or Writer.

Even though the school administration wanted me to talk with the students about writing, there was concern about the students coming away with the wrong impression of discussion about a book title, “My Bad Tequila,” without seeing the bigger picture that the book tells, of making smart choices.   Here below was my response to the school administrator and with the principal copied.

“Hello Joyce, I have never talked to students at a high school about ‘My Bad Tequila.’  I have talked to students about student government when I was running for the position of Mayor of Boise, Idaho, many years ago.  I have talked about ‘My Bad Tequila’ at libraries where there were children & teenagers present with their parents and I've always received positive feedback.  I always mention that there are consequences involved for all decisions we make; whether they be right or wrong.  I do not promote or approve of excess drinking, underage drinking, casual sex - protected or unprotected, nor do I approve of hostility, gangs, swearing, disrespect to our elders and advise to treat all persons as ‘You wished to be treated’ - I live by the Golden Rule.”

This is the response I received from Joyce C., “Jill S., who is the Students Against Destructive Decisions advisor and she knows that often teenagers can learn from others' experiences and depending your approach, she felt ‘My Bad Tequila’ could be very powerful in promoting responsible decisions.”

I then drove the 3 hour drive the night before to the Lakeside / Show Low / Pinetop area so as to be ready and on-time for the 1st period instruction and seminar on writing and the importance of blogging with discussions on all 3 books.   I started the first of three sessions with telling the students, that the thing I missed most about 1st period was the "Pledge of Allegiance" and asked them if they wanted to say it, they all responded, YES, including the school counselor.   Each one of them stood and waited for me to begin, “I pledge ........"   What a great way to begin the day and all the Students were unbelievable with super questions and some even vowed to begin their own Blogs, one girl stated, "I hope to write a book someday." I told her if she really wants to write a book that she will indeed write a book. I ended with "Fulfill YOUR Dreams, no matter what it is."

Special Thanks to the Hilton Hotel Family for donating a room at the Hampton Inn in Show Low, Arizona for my night’s lodging.   Conrad Hilton is one of my heroes, loved his book, ‘Be My Guest.’  http://www.hilton.com/search/hp/us/az/show_low?WT.srch=1

After spending time with these high school students, I have more confidence in our nation and feel as if I gained more from this visit than did the students.  Very moving experience reciting the “Pledge of Allegiance” for the first time in many, many years.

My first joint inaugural book signing was at the world famous, ‘Pinnacle Peak Patio’ in my now hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona.   When I write ‘joint,’ I am telling about 2 books, including my first Children’s book, “ARIZONA Is Where I Live,” and the “ELVIS” book.    At Pinnacle Peak Patio, I met Arizona’s Duuude, who is Arizona’s number one fan – Mr. Bob Roloff and Mr. Cory McCloskey, meteorologist on FOX 10 news, along with Big Marvin “Marv” Dickson – who has grilled more than 12 million steaks in the last 50 years, all at Pinnacle Peak Patio.  Also in attendance was Chaz Lee of Six Gun Entertainment along with cute sidekick, “Miss Nugget.”   http://www.pppatio.com/    http://www.sixgunent.com/      http://www.azphm.com/azduuude.htm

The second book signing was exactly 1000 miles to the North in Homedale, Idaho next to the mighty Snake River at the ‘Tango Saloon’ owned by the gracious couple of Lori Uranga Badiola and Ben Badiola of “back in the good ol’ days” of when I attended high school in nearby Marsing, Idaho, which too, is next to the mighty Snake River.   Amigas Diana Uranga M., Andrea, Sondy, Dee Dee and Amigos Craig C., Ben, along with some others made it a fun and enjoyable “Literary Time mixed with Miller Time.”   Next time, you’re passing through on Highway 95, stop by for a cold one and say “Hola” to the cool, Basque people at ‘Tango Saloon’ and then wander over and check out the ‘SRC Sports - Badiola Arena.’  If you ask me, I’d rename it to ‘Badiola BadAss Arena,” as this is a first class roping, bronc bucking, barrel racing, clown dodging, bull riding arena if ever there was one.    Can you say “Cowboy Up!”  If not, then a Cowgirl is gonna take You down, lil' pardner and You best leave town........ in a hurry!        http://www.tangosaloonhomedale.com/    https://www.facebook.com/#!/badiolaarena?fref=ts

Next stop was to see my 'BloodyFine' Amigos & Amigas of Rich, Rhonda, Kory, Michelle, Leslie and Larry at private party in the foothills of East Boise.   http://bloodyfine.com/

Saturday was a day filled with golf, 45 holes to be exact.  This is the reason I am having trouble pounding out words on my laptop - even my f-cking fingers are sore.  Great time with Uncle Dennie, Brother Sam and Cousins Chris, Rick, Jackie and my other cousin Chris at River Bend Golf Course and yep, You guessed it, also located on the mighty Snake River in Wilder, Idaho - home of my good Amigo Steve E.

Now Saturday night has arrived and Cabo San Lucas Amigos Rich & Rhonda take me to meet Margo H. and her husband Trent H. who is performing as one of Boise's Best Bands, "The Retreads" at 'The Gathering Place' in Eagle’s Landmark Orville Jackson Building.  http://theretreads.net/bio/

I just read in the USA Today where Washington Wizards Jason Collins is being touted as a HERO for coming out about his gay sexual preference.  WHAT, a Hero?   I don't believe so!  If he wants to let the world know of his sexual preference and who he is as a person - fine; but, let's not push it and give him hero status.   Let's say I come out and let the world know that I am a compulsive gambler, does that make me a hero?   No, it is just me letting the world know who I am;  I think Ben Shapiro, an editor at large for a conservative website Brietbart.com tweeted it best:  "So Jason Collins is a hero because he's gay?  Our standard for heroism has dropped quite a bit since Normandy."   Amigas & Amigos, please do not get me wrong, I am not gay bashing; but, at the same time why does this guy deserve to be a hero other than wanting to tell the world his secret of being the first Gay Wizard.   We all have secrets, some that we tell, some that we take to our graves.   Maybe every living being on Earth right now is a Hero?    What has our media and sports done to our world for the multitudes to be shouting in the streets:  "Isn't it great that a sports figure came out of the closet."  Shouldn't I be a hero for coming out and saying I am 100% heterosexual and prefer blondes or brunettes?

To me a hero in the sporting world is Pat Tillman, who served our country and died serving.   A man that turned down millions of dollars and the limelight of being televised every Sunday during the NFL football season to fight for the freedom of the United States and for every one of us.   Patrick Tillman is my hero for serving, not Jason Collins for being gay and announcing it.

Coming up this next May, on Sunday, the 19th will be the ‘Fifty Authors from Fifty States’ featuring ARIZONA and Rico Austin as the writer of this sensational piece of Western history and places of interest, representing the Grand Canyon / Copper State.    http://annettesnyder.blogspot.com/    Check it out and see why Rico was selected to write about his great state.

Also, come visit Rico at his table #8 and at the Arizona Authors Association booth #525 in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 10th, 11th and 12th where Rico will be giving a seminar on Saturday, May 11th on "Success as a Writer: A discussion of social media - Why it is important to use; Especially if you are a beginning writer and/or blogger."  We will then discuss and have readings from my novels.   All three books will be available for purchase and for personal autographs. http://www.swbookfiesta.com/authors/RicoAustin.html

‘In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter,’ is the true story of the legitimate, illegitimate Son of the KING of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Mr. ELVIS Presley, strewn together with the adventures and perils encountered while telling of John Dennis Smith’s birthright. His secret has been closeted in the attics of the forbidden for over five decades. Now join me as I take you up the narrow stairway, through the cobwebbed doorway and together we will slowly open the creaking door, creep delicately to the darkened corner, open the dusty, wooden box, pick up the book carefully (we don’t want to awaken a sleeping scorpion), open the first page and begin to read the mystery that lies within Cave Creek, Arizona.

Hola Amigas & Amigos,

Happy Easter to All;   We’re going to skip the talk of bunnies and chicks and go straight to the groundhog talk.

It’s Spring Time finally, a bit later even than Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog that mistakenly predicted an early spring on Feb. 2.   The ground varmint may get his due, after charges were filed against him last week in jest.   The Groundhog Day celebration in Punxsutawney, a borough about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, attracts worldwide attention each year.   Little does, but, a few folk know that Ground Hog’s Day was filmed in the small town of Woodstock, a suburb outside the Chicago area and the house that Bill Murray awoke in every morning was the same house that my Goddaughter, Paris’ dad grew up in.   Yes, Tom R. and his seven brothers and sisters grew up in that house.  Tom’s father was a captain for United Airlines and purchased the house many years ago to raise his large brood.   More interesting is that the story of how I became Paris’ Godfather nearly twenty years ago is shared in my latest biography / memoir – “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter.”

“In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter” is two stories in one that intertwine to become one incredible adventure and book.   This is the true story of the legitimate, illegitimate Son of the KING of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Mr. ELVIS Presley,
strewn together with the adventures and perils encountered while telling of John Dennis Smith’s birthright.

The biography tells of when Dennis John Smith found out who his birth dad and mother were on his 27th Birthday and how he has waited five decades before sharing with the world of his adoption and birthright.  The story is intermingled with the trials and tribulations of getting this book to print and published.   It is one incredible journey and adventure.  A must read if You enjoyed, “My Bad Tequila” or if You’re an ELVIS fan, there are 500,000,000 of us!  Hey, who isn’t an ELVIS fan?  There’s even mention of Winston Churchill, Jerry Lewis, George Strait, Cyndi Lauper, Muhammad Ali, Glen Campbell, Wild Bill Wichrowski, Jack Nicholson, Zona Marie, Lawrence Welk, Lou Holtz, Annette Snyder, Garth Brooks, Steve Boyce, Mike Tyson, Bret Michaels, Priscilla Presley, Ernest Hemingway and Coach Chris Peterson for all You Football fans with a dedication note to my past friend and hero – Mr. Pat Tillman.

Speaking of the former Arizona SunDevil, Cardinal football player and Army Ranger – Mr. Pat Tillman, his fund run is coming up.
Pat’s Run is the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation. Held annually in April at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium, the event attracts more than 35,000 participants, volunteers and spectators from across the country. Together they Run, Walk and Honor Pat’s legacy while raising important funds to support the programs created to pay tribute to his commitment to leadership and service.

Pat’s Run features a 4.2 mile run/walk, a .42 mile Kids Run for children 12 and under and a Finish Line Expo. The 4.2 mile course winds through the streets of Tempe, AZ and both events are staged so that all participants finish on the 42-yard line on Frank Kush Field inside Sun Devil Stadium, symbolic of the #42 jersey that Pat wore while he was a Sun Devil. Proceeds from Pat’s Run directly support the Tillman Military Scholars program.  This year the run will be held on April 20th.  Can’t make it to Arizona, no worries, there are other runs across the country allowing for Team Tillman participation, for more information, go to:  http://www.pattillmanfoundation.org/pats-run/

As Pat Tillman would say, “Be Inspired.  Give Back.  Run / Walk / Honor”

Also, to welcome all Bikers to the gorgeous spring time, here in lovely Arizona is “Bike Week” which is held from April 5th – 14th and broken down into 2 stages: Pre-Rally Days –April 5th thru 9th and Cyclefest at WestWorld of Scottsdale from April 10th – 14th.    For the real Bikers & Harley Davidson lovers, the place to be seen and heard is at the world famous “Hideaway Gill” somewhere in Cave Creek, Arizona – it won’t be hard to find, just follow the rumble of the engines and the hot chicas with big boobs, some tattoos and leather shoes.   C’mon down and say hello to Rico on April 4th, 5th & 6th as I’ll have a table set up for sales of the epic, award winning, bestselling novel, “My Bad Tequila,” my new Children’s book, “ARIZONA Is Where I Live” and I’ll be taking pre-orders for the soon-to-be ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter” which most of the story takes place right here in lil’ ol’ Cave Creek, AZ.   When YOU get here, find my favorite bartender Dawn, or Rick the manager or Mark Bradshaw the owner and tell him Rico sent you and that you want a shot of Azunia Tequila followed by a Corona.  They’ll know then that you do belong to the greatest fraternity of Arizona Brothers and Arizona Sisters.  Give em’ a “Like” on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hideaway-Grill/227878947315122

http://www.hideaway-usa.com/

As Mark Bradshaw would say, “Keep The Shiny Side Up, & The Rubber Side Down”

Now, to let you in on a few fun bands that I’ve listened to this past month:  While visiting Palm Springs, California, I went into one of my favorite watering holes, THE PUB, where I rocked out to “Nite Fixx,”  with Brian Nussle – bass, Chad Cancino – drums,  Chris Hoschin – Guitar and they all share in vocals, singing great tunes such as “I Can’t Drive 55” – Sammy Hagar with Van Halen;  “Rebel Yell”  - Billy Idol; “Sweet Child O’ Mine” – Guns N’ Roses; “Footloose” – Kenny Loggins and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” – by Twisted Sister.

As Austin Powers would say, “YEAH, BABY!!!”

This time I didn’t have to visit a neighboring state to get some great Country / Rock with Hollywood Yates and the Wolf Pack at Harold’s Corral, again in lil’ ol’ Cave Creek, Arizona.  Hollywood aka Don Yates is an Amigo of mine that I met a couple of years ago at the LZ Bar and Grill aka The Landing Zone at 2175 South Harley Drive in Yuma, Arizona for their anniversary party.  Hollywood was the main act on stage and I was the only Author invited for a book signing right between the outside Tequila bar and the tattoo artist.  Hollywood gave me an autographed copy of his CD, “Like We Used To” in exchange for an autographed copy of “My Bad Tequila.”  A little history about Hollywood, he started out as a Rodeo Clown, then was the character “Wolf” on American Gladiators, has done some acting in movies including “The Crypt,” has done various commercials and now is concentrating on songwriting and performing.  Don “Hollywood” Yates may be one of the hardest working performers in the industry.  It was great to hear Mr. Yates with his band members of Jimmy, Rob, Rocky and Dave singing my favorite tune of Hollywood’s own song, “Like father, Like son, Like Hell.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbX_KWu2OS0

As Hollywood Yates would say, “Like father, Like son, Like Hell”

Well, there is “One Father” who is Great – Our Father who art in Heaven – GOD! Today, we celebrate GOD’s only Son who gave his life so that we might have a chance to live again.  Happy EASTER – JESUS!

In closing, I’ll leave you with two other tunes, that of the legitimate, illegitimate Son of the KING of Rock ‘n’ Roll – Elvis Presley.   Please listen to these two songs and you’ll know why I had to write John Dennis Smith’s story, “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter.”    When John sings “American Trilogy” you would swear that Elvis is in the House and has not left the Building.

John Dennis Smith aka John Starr singing, “World, We Will Be Late Today” – my personal favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WOq2_IEgF4

John Dennis Smith singing his Daddy Elvis’ song, “American Trilogy.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjHIzOJVkTs

And, too, I am, one of the Blue Elvi or Blue Elvis’ as seen again on Bleacher Report: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1584172-5-ways-you-know-youre-a-boise-state-fan?

Amigas & Amigos,    I do hope that this short month of February has been long in kindness to YOU, YOUR Families & Friends.

Since this is a short month, it will be a short Blog – fair enough and given the fact that I am trying to get “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter” completely edited and to the publisher by early next week as I have been invited to the Arizona Bike Week in Cave Creek at the world famous, “The Hideaway” for a book signing on both weekends  of April 6th & 7th & then again on April 13th & 14th by owner / biker / legend – Mr. Mark Bradshaw who lives some where in Cave Creek, Arizona.  I do hope it can be published and several hundred copies printed by then – going to be very, very close.

I am very saddened by the news of the criminal downfall of Oscar Pistorius (Blade Runner).  I do wish the family and friends of Reeva Steenkamp, my sympathy and condolences.  If you remember, I wrote that Oscar was a hero to me for overcoming such adversity and in competing in this last summer’s Olympic Games in London.   I claimed Oscar Pistorius as my hero, right alongside Pat Tillman in the August 22nd, 2012, “My Bad Tequila” Blog and now must rescind Oscar’s name from that short list.  Only Pat Tillman of Arizona State and Arizona Cardinal Football Fame ;  Conrad Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels; and John Wayne remain on my HERO List!

The father of the bride that never will be, South African, Barry Steenkamp has asked that the “Blade Runner” come clean with the truth of what really took place at his home that tragic Valentine’s night.  Both Barry and June Steenkamp appeared on the “Cart Blanche” television program this last Sunday on South African channel MNet with their plea for honesty.

To add to the pain of the Pistorius family, Oscar’s brother Carl has been charged with murder as well, stemming from an incident in 2008, where he also is accused of killing a woman.  Lots of Bad News in South Africa.

However, I do have good tidings about South Africa.  My Amigo in Madison, GA, who is originally from South Africa became a United States citizen this month – Congratulations  to John M.  I had the pleasure of going to Iceland at the same time as he and his lovely wife; great couple and now they’re an American couple as Ann is originally from the U.S.

This last month I made a trip to Bakersfield, CA and took a couple of pictures at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace as two of my Amigos have their Daddy’s Bronzed Figure in there.   Bob Wills, the famous Oklahoman,  known as the “King of Swing” is the father to Jim Wills in Wickenburg, AZ and the other is Elvis Presley, the most famous person from Tennessee and the Rock ‘n’ Roll KING who is the secret father of John Dennis Smith that lives in Cave Creek, AZ.   The story, “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter” is the true story of Elvis’ legitimate, illegitimate Son and I was fortunate enough to have been asked to write his incredible journey and story.   I took the pictures and then gave each of them a copy for their private collection.

It does look as if “My Bad Tequila” will win another award (numero 14) as it is currently in first place for Book of the Month of February at Book Town.   For an update or to vote:  www.booktown.ning.com   GRACIAS 2 All!
One special occasion this weekend, Hell Yeah! my Amigo, Hollywood Yates and The Wolf Pack are Back in Arizona for the first time in a year!  They will be Raising Hell at Harold's Corral in Cave Creek, This Fiday and Saturday Night March 1st and 2nd... Come on out and "PARTY WITH THE PACK" Aaaaoooooooo.    I'll B there!       "LIKE"  & Join his Fan Page at https://www.facebook.com/HollywoodYatesMusic?fref=ts

I am writing this Blog from my Double Tree Hotel in San Diego.  Last night I had a great Mexican food dinner of carnitas, carne asada, beans and rice with fresh hand made tortillas topped off with a tasty Margarita with one of my favorite TEQUILAS:   AZUNIA Tequila  - ask 4 it by name.   Where did I have this meal you ask?   In historic, Old Town San Diego at the Café Coyote.  If You love Mexican food and if ever in Old Town San Diego, a delicious meal at this restaurant should be on your dinner list.  http://www.cafecoyoteoldtown.com

Speaking of AZUNIA and  The Hideaway,  my Amigo Mark & Rick finally had it brought in to serve.   To my great surprise, I was offered AZUNIA Tequila last Saturday afternoon at the Biker Bar that always has some Cowboys, Tourists and Locals sitting at the bar. www.azuniatequila.com

I will close out by asking those that can, please visit me at the Tucson Festival of Books on Saturday and Sunday, March 9th & 10th where I’ll be peddling my new Children’s book, “ARIZONA” is Where I Live” available at AuthorHouse.com and soon at Amazon.com & BarnesAndNoble.com;   This delightful, educational must for Children is available in soft cover and eReaders of every kind. http://bookstore.authorhouse.com/Products/SKU-000620655/ARIZONA-Is-Where-I-Live.aspx   or at

BCS Bullsh-t Championship Sucks; Snoqualmie Pass; Happy New Year 2013; Cazadores Tequila; Tiger is back? Bieber!

Hola Amigas & Amigos, Feliz Ano Nuevo y Prospero,

I have to warn you, towards the end of the Blog there is a whole lot of gossip about what is going on with Eldrick (Tiger) Woods & Justin (Beaver) Bieber.   This stuff is juicy and is hotter than any of the Hollywood tabloids as I get info here in Arizona faster than they do in California or New York and that's a fact, Jack.

January 7th, 2012; 4:00 am

Alarms going off simultaneously is not the best wake up sound for a Monday morning; however, it is quite effective and arousing.  I bounce from my restless sleep into a full uneasy awakeness, knowing that in umpteen hours I can once again lay my head on a pillow and my body to rest on hopefully a comfortable bed somewhere in Washington near a ski resort.

Shower is super hot, eases the aches in my lower back, knees and ….   I’ve spent too much time in the soothing shower as shown by my Blackberry as I check for any new messages.  4:37 am is not a good time when looking at a 6:45 am flight from PHX to PDX and having only towel dried.  Hurriedly I put on my underwear which includes T-shirt & shorts with a pair of socks.  I’d already shaven and brushed my teeth; however, I had yet not driven to the airport nor had I checked my luggage.

Southwest Airlines is at Terminal 4.  Like a good guy saving a semi –bad guy in a movie, the bus pulled up to the curb and announced that Terminal 4 was being entered onto.  I sprang like a female cottontail rabbit about to be mounted by Peter Cottontail with my toolbox, large suitcase that weighed less than 50 pounds and my laptop with copied handouts.  These handouts would make the difference between a successful presentation and one with high hopes of becoming a semi-successful presentation.

Dollar was the rental car that gave me an incredible lease of which I might be able to fulfill my work duties!  I had arrived at nearly 9:00 am into Portland and needed breakfast in the worst way.

Snoqualmie Pass in Washington state is not a picnic, nor is it the absolute, first place in which You might find an ogre or troll.  The exit was 52 off Interstate 90 headed east toward Spokane from Seattle.  Mike and I watched the temperature slowly drop as did the snow.  38 degrees, 37, 35, I slowed from sixty five miles per hour to fifty five, then forty as the LCD reading of the temperature continued to drop to freezing and beyond.  Approximately twelve feet of snow greeted us along with the yellow loader clearing the parking lot of the Summit Inn.  We both put on our winter jackets before heading into the building, pulling our suitcases and lugging our laptops to check in and then off to find the Sahalie Ski Lodge where our customers would be staying, bunk and dorm style.  The 14,500 square foot lodge with four stories equipped with three fireplaces and a tremendous size dining room was a beautiful sight surrounded by the color of white with fir trees rising towards the heavens.

We had agreed a couple of weeks earlier that most of us attending the sales event would meet that evening at the restaurant / bar at Summit Inn to watch the National BCS (Bowl Championship Series) that what it is suppose to mean, but we all know what it equates to is Bullsh-t Championship Sucks.  Mike & I arrived just as kick off had begun, each of us ordering some dinner and a Cazadores Tequila hid away in a margarita with salt.  By the time the others had arrived at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Alabama had a sizeable lead over Notre Dame and interest in the game was as lost as were the Fighting Irish of ND.  At the start of  the fourth quarter, everyone was clearing out so I headed out to my room as did Mike and a couple of other manufacturer reps to perhaps finish watching The Crimson Tide roll on the Catholic University.

The Summit Inn looked quite inviting in the lobby area as there was a real fir Christmas tree wholly (no pun intended) decorated with lights, bulbs, tinsel and with more bulbs and lights and tinsel.  There was a trophy size elk head on display above the check in counter with over sized ceilings that with reached above the second floor with varnished wood logs neatly embedded together.  Once, you hauled your luggage up the one flight of stairs, that is when Casper the Friendly Ghost leaves and a not so friendly ghost seems to arrive.  The hallway is long, dark and the flooring laid with what seemed to resemble cheap, outdoor carpeting.  My room was only two doors from being at the complete other end, near the red, glowering EXIT sign.  Exit was what I indeed wanted to do.  Mike’s room was near the entrance and the lobby where I yearned to be.  Half jokingly, I whispered loudly, “This looks like the hallway of ‘The Shining’ with Jack Nicholson.” “Yes, it does,” agreed Mike and he added, “if I see a kid on a tricycle riding through the hall I’ll call you."

"Red Rum, red rum," I murmured while scaring myself even more.
“Mike, you’d better lock your door tonight, because I have a feeling that I’m
going to be both cold and scared tonight,” I said as he put his key into the door lock and I continued my long trek into the manmade tunnel of which I could barely see light at its end.  I turned the heat up high, found the remote and the game, but was having a difficult time hearing the television as the loader was being operated as a snow shovel right outside my back window.  I looked out and saw the removal of several feet on snow pushed into a long, wide bank.  In the distance I could see the flashing yellow light of a snow plow on the Interstate and an occasional lone trucker pass by.  At this instance, the lights flickered and then the TV and all other power of electricity ceased for a few seconds and then the lights came back on to their normal mode; however the television just had black and white lines running continuously across the screen that eerily resembled many horror movies.  I leapt to the phone with only my long underwear over my short underwear and dialed Mike’s room number.  Thankfully, he answered on the second ring and said, “Yes?”

To this I immediately responded, “Mike, did your power and television set go off?”

“Yeah, the lights flickered a couple of times, but the tv is still down.”

“Oh good, I was hoping it wasn’t just my room,” I nervously chuckled and said, “Goodnight.”

I knew that Alabama had won the game, I just didn’t know by how many dozen touchdowns until later the next day.

January 8th, 2012;

The rental vehicle was covered with a good eight inches of white powder and a heavy layer of frost iced to the windows below that.  I quietly thanked GOD for leading me to Arizona, land of warm, hot and sometimes very hot.  After scraping the important windows for driving purposes, Mike and I drove the short distance to the Sahalie Ski Lodge where we had been invited for breakfast the evening prior.

After finding a suitable parking spot off the side of the road since the parking lot was unusable and closed because of the massive snow dump for the last couple of weeks we hiked uphill to the lodge.  We had our hands full with presentation materials, pamphlets and tools which made reaching our destination of over a hundred yards in the icy tundra even more gruesome.  I had hiking boots placed snugly around my feet, but Mike had none.  He wore his professional black soled dress shoes and lost his footing on the slick roadway before we had reached the incline path that led to the front door of warmth and food.  Mike hit the snow packed roadway hard, bounced back up quickly for a man in his thirties even though Mike was much nearer his seventies.

“Are you hurt?” I blurted, as I felt his pain through the scene I had witnessed.

“No, I think I’m alright.  Wow, that was quick, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah, one second your walking and the next your feet were in the air and you were on your back.  I can’t believe how quickly you got back on your feet.  You’re pretty agile for an old man,” I teased.

Just at that moment a voice from the darkness addressed us, “We lost power last night, but we’ve got a couple of small generators going and a huge fire.”  Go on up the hill and warm yourselves.”  It was then that we saw the man that resembled a lumberjack equipped with tools, axe and a flashlight that he decided to turn on at that instance to point the way to the lone building in the snow.  We thanked him and continued our treacherous climb in hopes of finding food and shelter very quickly as I am from Arizona and Mike is from Southern California.  How long we’d survive in temperatures like this were questionable and neither of us wanted to explore our bodily limits.

Upon reaching the summit and entrance to the front door we both stomped our feet to remove all clinging snow and ice from our shoes.  The building was dark, after we entered the hallway that led to the stairs we could see flickering lights either from a candle or a flashlight.  Turned out to be both as some of the persons had candles while others had a couple of flashlights.  “Hello, welcome; we’ll have breakfast ready in a few minutes, go on upstairs to the kitchen and dining room.  Some of the guys are cooking eggs and bacon on the grill outside.  Maintenance is working on getting power back to us, try and make yourselves at home,” greeted the female half of the caretaking couple that were assigned to watch over the lodge during the month of January.

The Sahalie Ski Lodge is jointly owned by its members and some of them volunteer to care for the lodge and help with accommodations for visitors and special events such as this.  There is a very interesting story about this place on the Internet if you care to learn more.  The original lodge was burned to the ground as a result of an accident; but, no casualties and the lodge was rebuilt.                                    http://www.sahalie.org/chair2/History.aspx

Sure enough, three brave souls were around the enormous grill just outside the front door on the patio while a group of us watched intently on the inside through the gigantic plate glass windows at our eggs being scrambled to perfection by the heroic fast order cooks with candles in hand on the outside braving the freezing temperatures.  The breakfast was epic, when I’ve tasted better eggs and bacon I know not.

Eventually when the sun finally rose, the natural sunlight streaming through the windows allowed for the sales event to begin.  The power was restored around 10:30 am and all’s well that ends well.  For more information on this story please see in the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter, it is all in there.

A day later and I was back in sunny Arizona.

We've had some record breaking rain deposits up here in North Scottsdale this last weekend so I did what I do best, I watched golf and wrote over 8500 words to my latest novel which is just about finished.  I want so badly to tell the name of it; but my publisher has advised me against it.   However, my new Children's book, "ARIZONA Is Where I Live," will be available any day now.  I have taken my love of the desert beauty, the animals of Arizona, the majestic Grand Canyon and have turned it into an educational and fun Children's book.  The illustrator, Cindy Work has a 7 year old grandson and she is sharing her love of creating, drawing and painting to help create an very unique look at Arizona.

Speaking of golf, is Tiger Woods back or is he just having success again at Torrey Pines where he has won this event (Farmers Insurance Open) the seventh time, and he set a PGA Tour record by winning at Torrey Pines for the eighth time, including his 2008 U.S. Open win.

This man that has a nickname of a ferocious animal is worth an estimated $600 million with an annual income of $85 million may agree to part with some of it if the rumors that Tiger Woods is willing to give up half of his net worth in an anti-cheating clause in order to remarry his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren. According to the National Enquirer, the pro-golfer got down on one knee (not sure which knee) with a big ass engagement ring asking for the former Swedish model's hand in marriage on Christmas Day.

In 2010, the couple divorced after it was revealed that Woods was a serial cheater who had multiple affairs with porn stars and strippers.   The National Enquirer, did say some of the stuff that follows here; but the other good stuff I have from my own sources of which I can not disclose, but I do have a Torrey Pines golf shirt.  Nordegren is also willing to make up and pu-t out if Woods signs a $200 million pre-nuptial agreement with the inclusion of a $350 million anti-cheating clause.

Hey Mr. Woods, I'll sign that contract for half that much and you can still have your porn stars, hookers, prostitutes, strippers, Burger King flippers and all the side saddle riding whores you want.  And if you want that little saucy Olympic gold medallist Lindsey Vonn have at it.  But, beware, now instead of having a golf club swung at your head, watch out for the sharp points of a ski pole which could poke an eye out.  Yes, ski poles are as dangerous as Daisy BB guns to the delicate retina.  Remember, folks you always hear it here first on the "My Bad Tequila" Blog.

Between Justin Bieber and Tiger Woods I can't keep up with who they're banging, I mean dating.    But the Tiger has the Beaver beat when it comes to net worth as the Beaver only has a net worth of $110 million, come on Bieber step it up, oh, Baby, oh Baby!   Personally, I can't wait until Bieber grows a couple and loses his Peter Brady changing voice.  Sorry to all my teeny bopper fans, (all 21 of you) but that is really the way I feel about your head throb, I mean heart throb.

Celebrities that I've hung out with this past month include Sarah Palin who now has her own copy of "My Bad Tequila" and her daughter Bristol Palin's son Tripp has the very first copy (actually the blue line or proof) of "Arizona Is Where I Live."   I met up with Sarah and her husband, Todd and some of their AZ friends at Harold's Corral in Cave Creek, AZ on Friday night, January 18th and we had a blast listening to one of my favorite Arizona bands, Mogollon Band while kicking it with my wife Connie, Elvis' son - John Dennis Smith, his wife - Lisa, TC and Mike.  Gavin the manager made us all feel right at home with the Western Hospitality!  In fact Gavin and his Amiga Janelle are having a Birthday celebration tonight 1-30-2013 at Harold's Corral.  Not sure if Sarah will be there or not, but, I did hear that John McCain may be making an appearance with his hot daughter and fellow AZ author - Meghan McCain.  Woo Hoo!

Also spent some time in Orange County - Huntington Beach & Seal Beach with my old Idaho room mate who just happens to be Actor, Model & Hollywood Stuntman - Steve Boyce;  He just finished doing a skit on Jay Leno's, "The Tonight Show that aired on 1-24-2013;  Great job Amigo, always great to have a night out with you.     Oh, and he is doing very first Super Bowl Commercial and he will "Crack" you up.

Watch for the Hyundai Commercial in the first quarter & vote on it for the most funny - por favor;   I have attached both the skit & you can go to my facebook page to see the commercial:

Compadres & Amigas,

Another great month of Summer has gained on us and where better to be than in the wild of Alaska and taking in the beauty of Central and Southwest Idaho and then one more crazy night in Vegas.

Unfortunately, there has also been tragedy and lunatics abounding again in the state of Colorado of which we will discuss later in the Blog.  And lastly we will cover the statue of Joe Paterno aka JoePa (literally & figuratively).

4th of July, our nation’s birthday I spent the evening prior in my hometown of Marsing, IDAHO with my mother, wife, brother, his girlfriend, niece and nephews.  The fireworks were incredible as seen coming off the reflection of the Snake River into the dark of the sky.  Marsing, ID is the home of a very special young man and Boise State University football player – Shea McClellin that once lived off Chicken Dinner Road on a 20 acre farm became the highest drafted Idaho-born player from Boise State as he was chosen in the first round by the Chicago Bears.

Next morning on the 4th of July we left beautiful downtown Marsing after I paid my respects to the Marsing street I was raised on, “Canal Street” and headed north for McCall, Idaho aka (ski town USA) as there is the crystal clear, blue Payette Lake that resembles Lake Tahoe clarity and sereneness.    Boise Amigos Kory, Michelle, Rich & Rhonda invited us for a memorable and laughter filled 4th;   Exactly 25 years to the date of the famous incident at the Yacht Club as mentioned in the epic, award winning novel, Rico was invited back this time for a book signing on the famous deck that overlooks the gorgeous lake with fireworks galore.  This is one of the most beautiful settings of which YOU will ever be able to view a firework show second to none (Disneyland comes close.)

Time to move on along near the 45th parallel to Red Fish Lake and then into Sun Valley / Ketchum ID area.  If You have ever visited the Sun Valley area in the Summer time you would never question why Ernest Hemingway aka Papa made this is final home.  If You ever make it to Ketchum a trip is not full without a stop at Whiskey Jacques on Main St. where Brent, Mark, Dave or Cody will greet You will a beer and a smile (order may be reversed.)  Again, another memorable book signing while the rambling, rolling, grooving, good times music played by the Musketeer Gripweed band helped keep the bookworms in rhythm.

Oprah Book Club 2.0 has begun to shake the literary world once again and we’re awaiting the phone call to arrive in Chicago to talk about why Oprah just has to recommend “My Bad Tequila” to her fans.  I do hope it is during football season so that Oprah can take me to the Bears game and then we’ll meet up with Shea McClellin and show Ms. Winfrey how a couple of Idaho and former Boise State Football players party with Tequila.

“Dirty Tequila” is a different animal of Tequila than I have ever tasted thanks to co-owners and entrepreneurs George & Corbin of the greater Phoenix area.  The best way to describe it is:  “Tequila perfected!  It starts with 110 proof blue agave tequila and with the addition of natural and artificial flavors and sweeteners, including agave nectar, the result is a uniquely smooth delicious tequila drink that will not leave your throat burning.  You can sip this tequila chilled neat, on the rocks, or mixed with your favorite tequila cocktails to add a little extra flavor to the mix.”   Should be available in several different markets by August 1st, 2012; but guess what?  I have already tried it at a “Dirty Tequila” party on the water at Lake Pleasant and man is it great tasting.  For a few fun pictures of the fiesta continue reading and at the end of the Blog – there they be.  There was even the Son of Elvis present:  have You heard the story of John Smith the DNA positively tested son of the Rock n Roll Great, Elvis Presley?  Well, he is alive and living well somewhere in Cave Creek, Arizona with his lovely wife Lisa.  There may be a book deal in the works for an Amigo that You may have heard of.  We’ll keep You posted as the story progresses.

The final day of the British Open was anything but ho-hum.  At the start of the round Adam Scott with the world renowned caddy Steve Williams led the field by 4 shots and still led the field with 4 shots with only 4 holes to play.  On the 15th hole things began to unravel for the Aussie and his Aussie caddy as he bogeyed the 15th, 16th, 17th and needed to save par with a makeable 7 foot putt and bogey again.  Meanwhile back on the course South African Ernie Els was busy stocking away birdie after birdie and yes, birdies the 18th hole.  While Els awaited his fate as the last twosome of Scott and McDowell played the 18th hole the world watched the heartbreaking collapse of Adam Scott.  While watching I could not help but think of another Australian golfer that came so close but was denied time and time again – Mr. Greg Norman (one of my favorite all-time golfers).   Well Ernie again won the British Open exactly 10 years and a day to his last win of the Open.

Now You may be asking, what happened to Tiger Woods?  Yes, Amigos of the golfing world Tiger collapsed as well, faltering in the last few holes except for birdie on the 18th.   The truth is I don’t care about Tiger Woods as I am not a fan, yes I will admit he is a good golfer; however, as a human being I have had little to no respect for this guy for many years and here is the rest of the story as quoted by Paul Harvey.  Tiger Woods was the only major golfing personality that did not attend Payne Stewart’s funeral in 1999.  He felt that it was more important that he get ready to play and try to win the tournament on Thursday.   I remember seeing a picture of all the great golfing professionals standing together saddened by the departure of their close golfing amigo and Tiger Woods is missing from the picture with a story telling of Eldrick (Tiger) Woods believing that it was more important to concentrate on his golfing and guess who won – yes, tigger won it.  I kept that newspaper picture clipping on my refrigerator door for over a year as a reminder of why I would not get caught on in tiggermania or as I think of it “total selfishness.”    There is also the case of when he (Tiger) did not go to honor Jackie Robinson after he'd won the Masters  -  he was on vacation, he had no excuse not to go -- and then tried to defend his decision.  He later apologized to Rachel Robinson but the harm had been done.  Tiger needs to learn about character about life and about honesty and integrity.  I am surprised that he still has any sponsors left after the humiliation he has bestowed upon his family and friends including the quick dismissal of close confidant and caddy – Steve Williams who stayed quiet and loyal throughout the entire sex scandal.  Woods may have apologized to lots of people or collateral as he might call and think of them; but, He will never be able to apologize to one of Golfer’s Greatest Statesmen and Characters – Mr. Payne Stewart RIP.

Now for the not so fun news of the crazy fuc_s  that want to kill and maim and hurt innocent children, women and men.  Aurora, Colorado is the latest town to undergo a tragic ending by lunatic James Holmes at the Black Knight Batman midnight showing.  Poor Colorado has had its share of dumbasses, stupid fuc- s and lunatics including the Columbine School students and killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold and a rapist who was visiting Vail, professional basketball player Kobe Bryant.  Lucky for Colorado, Kobe does not live in the state but the citizens of Los Angeles have to claim him.   All four of these individuals will not / did not get their deserved and correct punishment.   Public hangings would definitely make a person reconsider their motives, their planned killings, their rapes before carrying out such atrocities.  We the public have paid for Harris and Klebold and will most likely pay to house Holmes for many years in a solitary confined area away from the other prisoners of whom may be offered cigarettes, money or bitches to off Holmes.   We did not have to pay for Bryant, he did that on his own by offering and paying a substantial amount of NBA money to the victim to spare her of explicit testimony.  Kobe even bought his wife an extra large diamond ring to satisfy her anger and disappointment in a relationship that was founded on lies, adultery and betrayal.

To all the families and friends of the Aurora shooting, my deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers.  To Holmes and all the other crazy fuc-s scattered throughout the world such as Tucson, Norway, Virginia, Oklahoma, Iowa, California, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq:   We will survive and you will not Break our Spirit,  Love and Pursuit of Continuous Freedom.

“The statue of Joe Paterno, Penn State's late, disgraced former football coach, has been taken down, after university officials announced early Sunday their decision to remove it.

‘I now believe that, contrary to its original intention, coach Paterno's statue has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing in our university and beyond,’ Penn State president Rodney Erickson said in a statement. ‘I believe that, were it to remain, the statue will be a recurring wound to the multitude of individuals across the nation and beyond who have been the victims of child abuse.’

The decision comes on the heels of a damning 267-page report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh--which concluded Paterno concealed information about former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of underage boys--and a day before the NCAA announces sanctions against the school and its football program.” – YAHOO News!

Early this Sunday morning, a blue quilted moving blanket was placed over Paterno’s statued head of the 7 foot tall, 900 pound statue which had been erected in 2001 at Beaver Stadium on the State College, Pa., campus.  This same day July 22nd, 2012 the statue was airlifted via forklift and placed in an unnamed secure storage unit where it may be the winning bid for an upcoming Storage Wars televised segment.  In case some of You are familiar with Penn State but not Storage Wars it is a reality show on A&E Network and features auctioneers Dan Dotson and Laura Dotson, as well as auction hunters Barry Weiss (my favorite), Dave Hester, Darrell Sheets and the team of Jarrod Schulz and Brandi Passante.  Executive Producer and Creator Thom Beers serves as the off-screen narrator.  And that is all I am going to say about that except that Penn State finally has some balls and did the right thing so that the abused victims, their families and the surrounding community can start to heal.  One more thing, give Penn State Football the “Death Penalty” for at least one year and start the program anew.  How deep and how many layers beneath the truth surface did the cover up go?   How many players and other coaches knew what took place in the locker room, behind the bleachers and in the closed, darkened  classrooms as well as Sandusky’s family home?   Yes, there are still many questions of which we and more importantly the many victims will never learn the answers to.   Yes, Penn State Football and the University has not only been tarnished but has an evil taboo that will take perhaps decades or even longer before its brand is once again one to be proud of.    I feel for my Amigas and Amigos that have graduated from Penn State because it is currently not something that YOU want sticking out in a resume and during that interview You are asked, “So what do You think of Joe Paterno?” or “Are You a huge fan of the Nittany Lions Football program?”  One thing is clear, I love College Football and have cheered for Penn State in games past; but, children’s’ lives being protected and not being ruined is far more important to this Sports Fan and I am certain it is for most adult persons in this Mega World we live in and share with our Fellow Man or Woman.

Now to end this Blog on a great note where else to end the trip other than the last frontier Alaska.   There is an incredible place that serves the best Grandes and Mexican Food in the town of Anchorage since 1972 – Pancho’s Villa Mexican Restaurant owned by Carlos & Ricardo with Dawnarita serving as manager and helping Carlos serve up tasty Margaritas mixed with Jimador, Cazadores, Patron, Tres Generaciones and Corralejo Tequilas.    A fun crowd showed up for the “My Bad Tequila” book signing including Jimmy Moose (yes, that is his real name) who moved to Alaska some twenty to thirty some odd years ago because of his name and to escape where he came from – Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Erie or some city that was near a lake, river or canal.   Jimmy knew that a better life awaited him in the cold north because of his last name and he followed his calling and has been content in Alaska for all these many years as has Kim, Donna, Leonard and dozens of other Anchoragites.  Each of them gave me the Eskimo welcome and told me I could stay at their igloos anytime except when it gets very warm.

I traveled to Wasilla but did not see the Sarah Palin the former governor or Bristol or the little guy that helped trip up the last presidential election because of young Bristol Palin getting pregnant out of wedlock.    Who cares if the Republican Vice President Nominee’s daughter did get knocked up?  What should have it mattered?  You are right, it should not have mattered, but the media had a field day with it as did the opposition.  I believe Bristol now has a reality show called “Bristol Palin, Life’s a Tripp” which is the name of her son.   I do wish Sarah would have finished her Governorship with Alaska as she was elected by the people of that great state to serve, but book deals and television appearances seemed to be much more fun and liberating than running the largest State in the United States.   I did lose a great deal of respect for Ms. Palin for not finishing her term and as I traveled around the State, I found that several Alaskans held the same sentiments as an Arizonan.

I have to admit I wanted John McCain to become our new President because I felt if ever a person deserved to be our leader it was McCain who served our Great Nation, who was a Prisoner of War, who is a Businessman, a true and honest American but it was not to be.   The handlers of McCain did not let John McCain be the Man and the Maverick of which we knew him to be as he served in Arizona.  I try to stay away from Politics but it is an election year and I believe I can look at the candidates unbiased as I was once a Democrat, I was once a Republican and now I am an Independent.   I have never voted strictly along party lines and wish that most individuals would not, but I know from polls and from what I see in the media most people vote along their party lines and nothing else in taken into account.   In 2008, I believed Hillary Clinton would be a good choice, I believed Obama and in his change, but I was an Arizonan and knew the many good and honorable things that John McCain had done and I voted as such.

Before YOU read any further I ask that each of YOU be open-minded to continue to read my Blog in the future whether or not YOU agree with my point of view.  This is what makes America so great, it is the Freedom of Choice and the Choice to Agree or to Disagree.  I welcome any comments in disagreement or agreement and will post them all as long as the posts / comments do not personally attack an individual or a group.  That being said, let us continue to read and write.

This year I wish Hillary Clinton would have the opportunity to run on the Democratic ticket as I have lost all respect for Barack Hussein Obama for several reasons:  (1) Never taking the blame for anything these past 4 years.  Obama asked to be elected and the people answered his wish.  Once in office Obama blamed the past administration for everything, “Bush did this, Bush did that.”   I look at the Office of a new President of the United States as a new, fresh CEO taking over the reins of a company in trouble and turning the company around.  The new CEO never mentions the Old or Past Administration, he or she just leads the company toward new goals, new profits and does what she or he promised.    (2)  Obama told us how he would bring change, how he would bring the parties closer together, how he would be non-partisan.   The only thing that has changed is that I like You are worse off than we were 4 years ago before Obama took control of the White House.   (3) Vacations, galore at the expense of the taxpayers – You & I are footing the bill as Obama, Michelle and their two daughters flit about the country and the world.  (4)  Constant campaigning for another term rather than concentrating on the poor economy and the dismal job market.   Barack Hussein Obama told us that the economy is much better even though there are still hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work.   I am fortunate to be working, but tell the multitudes that are not working or who have lost their homes that the economy is good is like getting personally and physically slapped by the President himself.   (5) The majority of the people told Obama that they did not want Government controlled Health Care but he believes he knows better for us and pushed it anyway.   (6) Immigration issue has had a band aid put on it and now the policies in place are even more controversial than before.  (7)  There are many other reasons, but my intention is not to run Obama into the ground but for us to look at perhaps a new solution - WE the PEOPLE of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA need a Businessman or Businesswoman more than ever to help US become a Global Leader once again and restore OUR GREAT COUNTRY to where it was during the Reagan Administration.   WE need to gain OUR Respect back from Foreign Countries and WE need to help show OUR YOUNG what it means to be PROUD AMERICANS.    Vote not for Color,  Vote not for Religion,  Vote not for Party,  BUT PLEASE Vote for Leadership, Vote for Freedom, Vote for Positive Change, Vote for a Better America and VOTE!

OLE Amigas & Amigos,

Cinco de Mayo has once again graciously fallen upon us.  Have we a Blog for YOU of this past April’s happenings and of course early May for the 5th of which is one of “MY BAD TEQUILA” and Uncle Rico’s favorite days and holidays!    I am going to advise 2 different places of where Cinco de Mayo should be celebrated if You are in the vicinity of San Francisco or Scottsdale.  In Arizona – Juan Jaime’s TNT & in California the secret shall be revealed later in the Blog.  Continue to read on, My Little Grasshopper!

Better fasten or tighten up Your seatbelt because we are taking a fast ride through California which began passing swiftly through Bakersfield only stopping long enough for fuel and to pay my respects to Buck Owens and the Streets of Bakersfield sang by Amigo Dwight Yoakum.   I honked as I passed by Merle Haggard Drive as I listened to that Bakersfield Country Music which inspired me to write about my Ol’ Amigo Merle who I saw in a small concert venue at a Country Bar named Toolies in Phoenix, AZ in 1995 I believe it was.  This bar has since been sold, operated as a Latino Night Club and then later torn down; but, during its prime was voted Country Night Club of the Year in 1993 as was KNIX Radio in Phoenix voted  #1 Country Radio Station in the U.S. and it was there that I spoke and shook hands with the Greatest Country Music Songwriter of time.

Mr. Merle Haggard was born in Oildale, California in 1937.  His parents, James Francis and Flossie Mae (née Harp) Haggard, migrated from Oklahoma to California during the Great Depression. When the Haggard’s arrived much of the population of Bakersfield consisted of migrant workers from Oklahoma and surrounding states.  Haggard spent his childhood in Oildale, a suburb of Bakersfield.  His maternal grandmother, Zonda Lyons Harp (1881-1971), is the subject of his 1972 hit "Grandma Harp."

Merle’s dad passed away when Merle was nine years old. He soon began committing petty crimes and skipping school.  Picked up for shoplifting in 1950 (aged thirteen), Merle was sent to a juvenile detention center.  In 1951, aged 14, Haggard ran away to Texas with a friend, but returned that same year and was arrested for petty larceny and truancy.   Once again, escaping the juvenile detention center, he went to Modesto, California.  He worked odd jobs—legal and not—and began performing in a bar.  Once he was found again, he was sent to the Preston School of Industry, a high-security installation.  He was released fifteen months later, only to be sent back after beating a local boy during a burglary attempt.  After his fourth release, Haggard saw Lefty Frizzell in concert.  After hearing Haggard sing along to his first couple of songs Frizzell allowed Haggard to sing at the concert.  Merle began working on a full-time music career; however his continued money problems caught up with him.  He was arrested for attempting to rob a Bakersfield tavern in 1957 and was sent to the San Quentin state prison for three years.

While serving his sentence in prison, Haggard ran a gambling and brewing racket from his cell.  During a time of solitary confinement, he encountered an alcoholic mathematician and death row inmate, Drunk Adam.  Haggard had the opportunity to escape with a fellow inmate (nicknamed "Rabbit") but decided to finish out his sentence.  The inmate successfully escaped, only to shoot a police officer and return to San Quentin for execution.  Drunk Adam's predicament along with that of "Rabbit" inspired Haggard to turn his life around.  Haggard earned his GED high school diploma equivalency, worked a steady job in the prison's textile plant, and played in the prison's band.  Upon his release in 1960, Haggard worked digging ditch and various other jobs with his brother before returning to the music industry. In the Year of Our Lord1969 the Grateful Dead began performing Haggard's tune "Mama Tried", which appeared on their 1971 eponymous live album.  The song was steadfast in their repertoire until the band's end in 1995.  The Grateful Dead also performed Haggard's "Sing Me Back Home" numerous times between 1971 and 1973.  Also, the Flying Burrito Brothers recorded and performed "White Line Fever" in 1971, and toured with “Hungry Eyes” and "Sing Me Back Home.”

As always I most always have a connection within this refined and notorious Blog and here is the first one:  Steinbeck!   Si, John Steinbeck the famous and one of my favorite all-time authors.   I had the good fortune of visiting for the first time Salinas and the National Steinbeck Center and the home where “little Johnnie Steinbeck” was born, raised and first began writing.  Remember the novel “Grapes of Wrath” which is about the Great Depression and the migration of families, workers and hobos from Oklahoma to other parts of the country, namely California and remember reading just three paragraphs above that Merle Haggard’s folks were part of that mentioned migration of Mr. Steinbeck’s published story in 1939.  Steinbeck won the annual National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize for novels and it was cited prominently when he won the Nobel Prize in 1962.  http://www.steinbeck.org/pages/steinbeck-institute-for-art-culture

“The Grapes of Wrath” is frequently read in American high school and college literature classes due to its historical context and enduring legacy.  Hollywood could not be left aside, without its film version, starring Henry Fonda and directed by John Ford in 1940.

Well as Tequila luck would have it, the home of John Steinbeck on Main St. of Salinas, California was closed as there is now a restaurant serving food in the former Steinbeck Victorian Home located at 132 Central Avenue and owned by the Women’s Valley Guild of which I signed an autographed copy of “My Bad Tequila” and slipped it through the gigantic mail slot.    For more info, please visit:  http://www.steinbeckhouse.com/

I then decided to drive on into Monterrey to see the historic waterfront district of Cannery Row along the shore of the Monterrey Bay of which another famous novel by Mr. Steinbeck “Cannery Row” was written about and published in the Year of Our Lord 1945.

Before my stop in Salinas & Monterrey I had visited the most beautiful city in the United States – San Francisco of which I have had the great pleasure of viewing and staying in the City by the Bay several times before.   However, what made this trip different was a taxi ride to Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant, the epicenter of the Tequila world and Tommy’s is listed as one of the top 23 things to do while visiting San Francisco.   http://www.tommystequila.com/

Well, I went, met Julio the owner and son of Tommy whom I never had the pleasure to meet since he died just last year March 2, 2011 in San Francisco, CA. Born in Yucatan, Mexico on January 13, 1932 Tomas “Tommy” Bermejo came to the U.S. on a Guest Worker Program and founded the now famous restaurant in 1965.  Julio Bermejo turned his parents’ longtime Richmond District restaurant into the Bay Area’s Tequila mecca, and his evangelism for Tequila ultimately earned Julio the role of the state of Jalisco’s sole U.S. Tequila ambassador.

After meeting Julio, autographing him his own personal copy of “My Bad Tequila” the pouring and sipping of Tequila began with a welcome shot of Azunia Tequila Reposado then a margarita with Platinum Blanco Azunia Tequila followed by a shot of Espolon, then Cabo Wabo and finished with a delicious shot of Herradura from 1998 stock.  In the bar was Dave & Stephanie, a couple of Tequila Connoisseurs enjoying the many Tequilas offered at Tommy’s.  I would also like to thank Greidi & Miguel for all of the limes that were freshly squeezed to help Julio blend the finest of Margaritas in the City of San Francisco.

If You are wondering why a book signing did not take place at Tommy’s then YOU are on the right track going the wrong way.   Indeed a “My Bad Tequila” book signing took place Sunday evening as several of Apple executives, engineers and programmers had made reservations both with the limousine company and at Tommy’s Restaurant for dinner and tequila class.   Yes, that is correcto, at Tommy’s, You can join the world’s largest Tequila Tasting Club and Membership is only $10.00 or approximately 120 pesos if You are like me and carry both currencies.  Upon graduation, You will receive Tommy’s Tequila Master Booklet, an oak framed Tequila Master Diploma and a very cool Tommy’s Tequila Master T-Shirt.  Guess what author is now working on obtaining his Tequila Master Diploma?   Yes, I am the latest member of the Blue Agave Club - and proud to be the 7000th member;

And during the book signing (of which $3.00 per book sale was donated to Elmy’s favorite Charity “Casa de las Madres” which is a Charity of Women Against Domestic Violence – Elmy is Julio’s sister and also daughter of the late Tommy) in conjunction with Tequila class (We’re not drinking, We’re learning) one other special treat occurred, one of my Facebook Amigos Daron and his lovely wife Rose showed up as well for their wedding anniversary so the book signing was a huge success and a great deal of fun with an added pleasure of receiving $2 dollar bills from Two Dollar Bill of Apple who has earned his Masters and his PhD and beyond in Tequila Tasting.  Gracias Bill for a gentle reminder of when my now deceased, sweet Grandmother used to give me a $2.00 note each Christmas as a gift.   If things go as planned I’ll have my Masters in Tequila in just a few short years and then I will be eligible to attend one of Julio’s guided tours of Jalisco, Mexico and the Tequila World.

Dick Clark RIP, born Richard Wagstaff "Dick" Clark on November 30, 1929 and passing from this world on April 18, 2012.   Dick Clark was an American radio and television personality, best known for hosting American television's longest-running variety show, “American Bandstand”, from 1957 to 1987.   He was also known and referred to as America’s Oldest Teenager.   Dick Clark will be missed again at the end of each old year and the ringing in of the New Year just as was Guy Lombardo.

Happy Birthday to my wife Connie as we celebrated her 50th Birthday with many Amigas & Amigos from as far away as Wisconsin, Minnesota and Idaho with many Arizonans from the 47 other states.   Connie also picked the winner “I’ll Have Another” as the winner of the 138th Run for the Roses – Kentucky Derby.  The night before the big fiesta my Idaho Amigo Rich & Amiga Rhonda & I all decided to go out for a couple of quick drinks and dinner with the first stop being at Juan Jaime’s Tacos and Tequila TNT where we tasted Clase Azul, Don Julio and Cruz Tequila served again by mi Veracruz Amigo – Martin.  After a great dinner off we rode to see my Ol’ Amiga Gwen, owner of Handle Bar J’s as she had asked me to come in and to bring a copy of “My Bad Tequila” with me for a Special Scottsdale Celebrity.  The only hint she gave me was that he was a Sports Figure of whom I had met years earlier.   Well that left a lot of possibilities as Scottsdale and Phoenix is loaded with Persons of Celebrity Status and with living in the area for 21 years I have been fortunate to have met the majority of them through sporting events, book signings, concerts, and/or golf outings.   When the trio of us arrived I gave Gwen a huge hug, introduced her to my fellow Idahoans and asked “WHO is coming to Handle Bar J’s?” of which only a smile was given in exchange.   I shouldn’t give the answer here as I should make YOU each scroll down through the pictures at the end of the Blog to locate “The Celebrity,” but, as YOU all know I am not that cruel, so TOM CHAMBERS, former Basketball Star of the Phoenix Suns.   When YOU look at the picture, please remember I am of normal male height of 5’10” and well Tom, he is a Giant, a Good Looking, Gentle Giant, but a Giant all the same.   Amigo Tom wanted his autographed copy of “My Bad Tequila” and a picture with the three of us to remember the event.   Gracias Amigo Tom for the many great years of entertaining basketball in Phoenix as a Suns Player;   I can’t wait to get YOUR Review!

Awaiting me when I arrived home was the Fed Ex truck because he had a Commemorative Special Edition bottle of “The Mint 400” by Azunia Tequila sent to me by my San Clemente Amigo Mr. Jim Riley of Intersect Beverage.  The legendary General Tire Mint 400 is known as “The Great American Desert Race”, and is the longest running off-road race in America.  It started in 1967 and is held each year just north of Las Vegas, Nevada.  The race is a four hundred mile test of man and machine, and is considered one of the toughest and roughest courses in off-road racing.  Every year hundreds of the best race teams in America, as well as celebrities from around the world compete in the Mint 400, which features twenty-four different types of vehicle classes.  They are all after one goal, the overall win!  Good Luck Team Azunia & General Tire!!!!  Bottle arrived JIT for May 5th!

Cinco de Mayo – 5th of May is the 150th Anniversary of Puebla War which commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861 – 1867).  If I have to tell another individual that it is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day I will have to have another strong Margarita.   Mexico’s Dia de Independencia is September 16th and that is a major fiesta in Mexico whereas May 5th is a huge party in the United States driven by the Tequila market.  Any Questions?    If so or not watch video!

Arizona Bike Week, The Hideaway, CRUZ del Sol Tequila, Wyoming

3/30/2012

Hola Amigas & Amigos,

Again, a mulitude of TRIPS - Tequila, Rock n Roll, Insanity, People, Sports to write about as the last day of March is passing. A Great month and a Great day as I am out by the “My Bad Tequila” swimming pool (see pictures at end of Blog) hanging out and enjoying the 90 degree day and listening to the roar of Harley Davidsons, Triumphs, Victorys and other loud bikes afar in the distance.

Bike Week in Arizona ends tomorrow, April 1st and that is not an April Fool’s Joke or Prank – Bike Week really does come to a close but not before we make one more trip to the World Famous Hideaway Grill http://www.hideaway-usa.com/ owned by Amigo Mark Bradshaw in the not-so-quiet little town of Cave Creek, AZ. It seems like Bike Week just started as Paradise Valley / Scottsdale resident Bret Michaels kicked off Bike Week on Friday, March 23rd which was Kansas Amigo Richard L.’s Birthday of which he left Lake Wabunsee to party in Scottsdale to celebrate the Big 60 along with his Fabulous wife Cindy and Amiga Su with many Arizonans such as Ricky D., Shawn, Jacque, Howie, Jan, Connie, Carrie, Carrie's Mom & moi. Mr. Birthday Boy - Richard did ask me to autograph 2 copies for our Atlanta Brave Amigos, Dan Uggla & Chipper Jones as he would be seeing them in the near future as he is in-law related to the Uggla Clan.    Here's to Dan Uggla having an All Star Year and Chipper Jones getting healthy so that the Braves can make a run at the Pennant.

Well back to the story and Hideaway, yesterday afternoon I was able to talk with Mark briefly after he returned from a ride that went up to Anthem to visit Buddy Stubbs Anthem Harley – Davidson store. Jay Allen of the Broken Spoke in Sturgis, SD was present: http://www.brokenspokecampground.com/index.php http://www.brokenspokesaloon.com/index.php

Jay asked me to sign his white shirt along with another 20 or 30 other individuals for a souvenir of his time spent in Arizona. The legendary icon bar owner also picked up a copy of the epic, award winning novel “My Bad Tequila” and asked me to personally autograph it for him; I also gave him the CD of Quarterdeck with the number 4 song “My Bad Tequila” which was inspired by the novel and co-written by Elly Garrison and Rico Austin (yea, that’s me.) Also the World Famous Mr. Buddy Stubbs of Arizona Harley Davidson fame was on the ride (Buddy Stubbs is a real character in the epic, adventure & mystery story “MY BAD TEQUILA.” Amigo Tom who works with my wife was also on the ride and he needed a Jack Daniels and water to wash down the meal given to all that attended the ride and I did a shot of Cruz Tequila (Cruz del Sol) of which I will spend more time writing about a bit later as it deserves its own paragraph.

Mark Bradshaw is an incredible Amigo and a Marketing Genius – he has transported ARIZONA into the newest Harley Davidson Hotspot and had a Super Fun Time while doing it. Mark and his team of dedicated Bartenders, Security, Managers and Partying Amigos & Amigas has helped bring Arizona in its 100th Year Birthday a notch and one half above the Rest. I heard a very cool story today from another Amigo named Mark with the last initial H. of whom was at the Hideaway Grill from the very 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd day and 4th day. Mr. Mark H. is a great, standup Guy as is longtime Manager – Rick who just seems to quietly go with the flow. One word of possible advice – Rick may seem like a cuddly teddy bear from the outside; but, do not cross this Hombre or else! Gracias Connie, Mark, Carol, Bambi, C.K., Diana, Dennis, Dana, Austin, Dawn, Tom, Mike, Jan, George, and Char and a bunch of other Amigas & Amigos. Missed Amigo Mark B. as he was at the Biker Festivities anc CycleFest at WestWorld in Scottsdale and attended REO Speedwagon, Puddle of Mud, Tesla and the AC / DC experience. I am sure Amigo Mark B. was also at Dirty Dogg Saloon once or twice during the week.

List as chosen by 60,000 riding Bikers and Rico of My Bad Tequila. If You guessed Tap Haus being in Cave Creek then You are one Bad Ass Biker Chick or Dude. As I looked over this list once more I came to the conclusion that if You are truly going to enjoy Bike Week in Arizona, You’ll want to begin in Cave Creek while then visiting hotspots in Scottsdale, Mesa, Queen Creek, Peoria, Phoenix, back to Scottsdale and ending up once again in Cave Creek with the closing day of the Crawdad Feed at where else but The Hideaway Grill somewhere in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Pink Cadillac Boutique is another must stop while visiting the Carefree area of Cave Creek, AZ; Carefree and Cave Creek are both small, interesting and gorgeous Arizona towns just North of Scottsdale with plenty of Saguaro Cacti, Ocotillos, Barrel Cacti and other desert plant life to make the short drive north of Phoenix or Scottsdale worth the drive. Co-owners Linda and Tammy of Pink Cadillac Boutique are a pleasure to meet and purchase from. www.pinkcadillacboutique.com

Cruz Tequila was founded in May 2005 by partners and Arizona State University alumni Joseph Pep and Saulo Katcher and Todd Nelson, and is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cruz Tequila has since won numerous international spirit awards and is currently distributed in Arizona, Texas, Illinois, West Virginia, Utah, Idaho, and nationwide online. Here is what Cruz Tequila’s website reads and I couldn’t have phrased it better so: The proof is inside the beautiful artisan bottle. To taste the difference, pour ½ an ounce of CRUZ Tequila into a glass (ideally the Reidel Ouverture Tequila glass). Swirl it to let the oxygen unlock the bouquet and flavors. Notice the aromatic scents from the glass before sipping. Then take a very small sip, taking the time to feel the taste on front of your tongue and in the back of your palate as you swallow. Be warned, if you are looking for “the bite,” you simple won’t find it here. My Bad Tequila had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Pep Katcher – (El Presidente) before the famous ice sculpture of CRUZ Tequila and Mr. Bradshaw sending or pouring CRUZ Tequila down the ice shute and meeting palate after palate of Tasteful Tequila. Todd E. the Arizona Market Manager kept the party alive while wearing his Bandana of CRUZ del Sol TEQUILA!

Now a word about Wyoming, famous for Buffalo and Antelope roaming the plains. Got to see my Old Amigo David Watson, staff writer for WYO Sports www.wyosports.net and part time Bartender extraordinaire at 3rd Street Bar and Grill in downtown Laramie.

Notice the lawn chair on the ledge and broken window! This is ANIMAL HOUSE in Laramie, WYOMING!!!! We couldn't have a beer in our hands for the photo as Pi Kappa Alpha is on Probation from underage drinking party last semester! LMAO My Kind of Frat! 20 Fraternity Brothers are now fighting over who gets to read the epic novel “My Bad Tequila” first, second, third, etc., etc. This should keep them busy until alcohol aka Tequila and Cervezas are allowed to flow once again onto this hallowed Fraternity Ground on Sorority Row. That last part is no joke, that is their street name and location in Laramie at the University of Wyoming.! Go Pokes aka Cowboys!!!

St. Patrick’s Day in Ahwatukee– golf with John, Pete and Chris and My Bad Tequila for a good cause – Hot Chicks that love Green ..........! As a 4 man scramble team we shot 66 and we didn’t win, place or show! Tied for 4th but I do predict final NCCA Tourney will be played between Kansas Jayhawks and Kentucky Wildcats! I like both teams so Good Luck to each at the Superdome in New Orleans.   Congrats to Kentucky, but please don't continue to Riot, Act Like You've Been There Before!

I cannot wait to watch The Masters Golf Tournament being played at Augusta beginning this April 5th with the final round being played on Sunday April 8th; Here’s hoping the final round includes Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy vying for the Green Jacket. Speaking of Augusta some of my Arizona Amigos will be walking the course on Tuesday’s practice round on April 3rd. Have Fun Doug B. & Mike P. and the rest of YOU Guys that did not include me in the winning lottery to join. I have to work, but I could have worked around it. Get it? Worked around working at my work.

And now a little something extra that happened in 2003 - this is like a Train Wreck;  YOU can't look away as there is no telling what Crazy Man Uncle Rico will do next in this youtube video:   Enjoy & Share!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q22H3a_QNVA

Arizona 100 Years Old or Young, Sea of Salton, Reader's Oasis & Paul Winer, Leap Year

2/29/2012

What’s up Amigas & Amigos?

Feliz Cumpleanos Arizona!   Happy 100th Year Birthday to the 48th State of the Union.   Arizona was the last to be honored statehood of the lower 48 states on February 14th, 1912;   The plan was to for Arizona to become a state on Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday, February 16th but back then paperwork and government worked much faster so 2 days earlier Arizona was to become the not only the Grand Canyon State but also the Valentine State or Love State!  Alright, I made up the last two nicknames, although they are quite fitting as I LOVE ARIZONA!

Lots of things to write about for this month of February on the 29th day – that’s right Leap Year has found its way to us in 2012, the year of another Presidential race and hopefully a real change for the better and not just a “Change”  that left each of us in much worse shape than before.  I’m so over that “Change” as are other Independents and Democrats.  I’m thinking perhaps a Republican (although I would prefer an Independent) for this next term might be Grand for the Country and the Economy since we have no other choices in the Democratic Party other than a man with a silver tongue and with the middle name of Hussein.   We the People elected Barack Obama as President of the United States and it just hasn’t worked out like we had all hoped and anticipated.  Once again we were lied to by the highest official in public office.  Also, let’s vote out every incumbent whether Republican or Democrat to send a message to the White House and Congress that we are tired of all their Bureaucratic Bullsh-t!  Whatever happened to Politicians wanting to help the people instead of their own pocketbooks and investment interests?    My definition of Politics:   “Poli” – Many & “Tics” – Blood Sucking Parasites

And it is the Year of the "My Bad Tequila" Swimming Pool!  Yes, You read this correctly; "MY BAD TEQUILA" has its first and only private Swimming Pool and Spa Jacuzzi for Cinco de Mayo fiestas!  There is a picture posted of the pool on its first new day of life in February, 2012.

Now before I continue ranting about our Congress and lack of leadership, guidance and honesty let’s start afresh and discuss a recent, different place I stumbled onto in California somewhere in between Palm Springs and El Centro alone in the desert.   At first the sites were promising as I left the Palm Springs / Indio area with golf courses galore, palm tree farms aplenty, vineyards, grapefruit trees and greenhouses.   In the far distance there loomed what seemed a huge lake or was it an oasis of great magnitude.   As I drove on farther into the desert, away from the tree farms, the green vegetation, a sign read:  “Salton Sea Recreation Area.”    Excited, I drove faster into the ever drying and dusty desert with dismantled bushes or sagebrush blowing across the highway as tumbleweeds.    The closer I became to the Sea, the further I was from society as I know and love.   Many, many trailer homes, mobile homes and other homes that a Big Bad Wolf could huff and puff and perhaps blow down were strewn about; most of them abandoned, although a few had signs of civilization even though I never really saw a body –dead or alive!   Some of the homes had well placed fencing about and seemed to have been taken care of in the past, a past of happier days, of a cleaner sea, of a better economy.   Fifty years ago, the Salton Sea was called the “French Riviera of California” and that claim did hold water as Hollywood and other celebrities escaped to the “mini-ocean” just 35 miles from Palm Springs.  No longer is it the place of weekenders escaping the turmoil of the largest county – Los Angeles, instead it is a place that you’ve come across because You are lost or You are in a quest to find the end of earth or life.   I’m not saying it is at the end of the world; but, you can see it from there.  The abandonment of this former tourist hot spot is not a virtual ghost town where the wealthy once came to play.  The sea has picnic tables and benches floating in it, no longer is there a marina.   The sea no longer is the color of other bodies of water; it is the color of grease mixed with oil and cola and gasoline.  I had to taste the water to see if it was salty as a sea or ocean, yes it was salty and nasty and rancid and humiliating to my taste buds.  I could not spit enough to rid of its lingering substance of vile mixtures.   I should have known by the carcasses and bones of the dead fish washed ashore not to let even the slightest of drops enter my mouth and then into my now unclean body.  There were seagulls and pelicans around and in the body of water which did give it a sign of life.  Did I mention that that this area is 227 feet below sea level?  Two words describe this place:  NO BUENO!
Whitney Houston - RIP;  love the movie "The Body Guard" starring Whitney and Kevin Costner and the song "I will always Love You."  Listened to the song while sipping a Margarita with Azunia Tequila.

From the subject headline it mentions a man named Paul Winer and Reader’s Oasis Books of which is our next topic.   If ever traveling between Phoenix and Los Angeles on the Interstate 10 this is a must stop near the edge of the Arizona state line.   Quartzite, Arizona sits just north and runs along side of the Interstate, this is the Mecca for rock hounds, Winnebagos and other recreation vehicle lovers and travelers.  Paul Winer is one of the great characters that make up the fun and differente community of Quartzite, AZ.   Paul is an Amigo of mine and has read the epic mystery and incredible, award winning adventure novel “My Bad Tequila” and stocks it along with many rare and hard to find books and magazines.  There are a few things that make Paul a rare find; one is that he doesn’t wear clothing under than a small piece of cloth that covers his organ and the other that he plays the organ or piano.   Paul doesn’t like the feel of clothing and so do not be alarmed with a leather skin tanned, slender man with a beard comes walking around the corner in his unique bookstore.  In the 1970s, Paul earned his underground fame performing as “Sweet Pie” the Naked Boogie-Woogie Piano Player.”  Sweet Pie toured the circuit back East and in Canada with an up-and-coming comic of which You may have heard – Jay Leno.   During this time, Paul performed his music/comedy review for more than 1.5 million people over the years at clubs, saloons and underground parties.  Paul performed from 1965 – 1990 and again performed this last 3rd at Parker Elks Lodge.  One more thing that makes Paul so genuine is that he allows Authors (if he takes a liking to You) to set up a stand or table under the canopy outside and sell their books, novels and CDs free of charge.   Absolutely FREE of CHARGE, he doesn’t want or take a percentage of our book sales; he doesn’t charge rent or a fee for using his place of business as a means to help our business and sales.  As far as I know, there is not another book store new or old that offers Authors such a place to converse, share, trade and sell their stories.  In fact Paul will introduce You to the other Authors who’ve already set up shop and ends the introduction with “I hope You have fun visiting with each other.”

This last month when I had a book signing and book reading at the Quartzite Public Library I spent part of my Saturday with other traveling Authors and Book Enthusiasts; during this time I met an adorable author, Ceil Stetson who is the editor of her mother’s words through letters and diaries.  I picked up “Dear Sergeant Honey” and read the Introduction and the back cover, then walked over to Ceil and asked if she wanted to trade a copy of “My Bad Tequila” for a copy of her mother Hildegarde Molnar’s story which Ceil molded and shaped into a clever love story, a historical WWII Story, a diary of a WAC and a biography.  This the book I am currently reading and am intrigued by this young woman’s travel of helping the US and Britain win the war against Germany and Hitler. http://www.amazon.com/Dear-Sergeant-Honey-Ceil-Stetson/dp/0741447452/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330892990&sr=8-1

When traveling that long desert highway, take a break from traveling and the car, go in and introduce Yourself to Paul and tell him “Rico of ‘My Bad Tequila’ sent me in and wrote of Your fame.”   Go ahead & GOGGLE “Paul Winer” I dare You!!!   Even my Conservative Amigos will like Paul as do my Liberal Amigos!

See Pictures below of: Salton Sea, My Bad Tequila Swimming Pool & Paul Winer;

Happy Easter, Seal Beach, Orange County Fair - Red Rocker, Regional Tequila, La Puerta

4/4/2010

?Que Tal Compadres?

Happy Easter to all Amigas and Amigos out there in the beautiful world this fine Sunday morning from sunny Scottsdale, Arizona; home of the saguaro cactus, roadrunner and the lonely coyote that walks the Sonoran desert in pursuit of water and kinship.

Fantastic week was enjoyed by “My Bad Tequila” in Southern California, as I met up one evening with facebook Amigo – Lance T. aka “Little Sammy” for margaritas and tacos at Toritos in Cypress. We both took the opportunity to get our tickets to see the real Sammy Hagar aka The Red Rocker for his performance on the evening of August 4th, 2010 at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California. Can’t wait to hear Sammy roar out those well loved tunes of his. Psst: password is cabo to be able to book seats early.

Also stopped in at Art Images Gallery in the quaint area of Seal Beach and bought a large black and white photograph of John & Jacquelyn Kennedy sailing up near Cape Cod. It was a happy time for the both of them; the wind is forcing their hair back and showing radiant smiles from the young couple. If ever passing through, make sure and stop in and say hello to Bill K. at Art Images Gallery and look at his huge selection of paintings, sculptures and other fine artwork, www.artimagesgallery.com Seal Beach has lots of fun restaurants, bars, museums, clothing shops, pubs and galleries to visit and a beautiful pier to walk out on to view Catalina Island off in the distance. This particular trip I was able to see the white glistening snow on the mountains to the east and the outline of Catalina Island to the west, absolutely gorgeous scenery up close and afar.

As I made my way down the coast, stopped in at “The Cliff” to enjoy an open air, ocean view lunch consisting of fish and shrimp combination plate with fries with an iced tea. The Cliff Restaurant, located in Southern California's must-visit city of Laguna Beach, offers a world class menu with an unsurpassed dining experience. ...

Tequila Time: After making my way along the Pacific Coast Highway I detoured to see Amigos – Jim and Jenifer at Intersect Beverage located in the calm community of San Clemente. Waiting for me was a bottle of Regional Reposado Tequila after having spent at least 3 months aging in American Oak Barrels. Regional is made from 100% Weber Blue Agave in a Mexican village Amatitan, in the heart of Jalisco which is the designated tequila region of Mexico. This smooth and medium-bodied Reposado has an unmistakingly rich agave scent with a slight touch of herbs in the background. It’s of brilliant light colored gold and with true body that flows easily off the palette with an ever so slight flavor of sweetness lingering at taste completion. Intersect Beverage also handles the distribution of Azunia Tequila of which I have written several blogs telling of its perfection for the true connoisseur of fine Tequila. Visit these two websites for events, products and any other information:

www.azuniatequila.com www.regionaltequila.com

Finally, before heading back to the "Valley of the Sun" I spent the night in San Diego and visited "La Puerta" for happy hour and as I was told by fellow Tequila Connoisseur - Ryan K. Senor Ryan was on the money as the Restaurant and Bar - La Puerta carries 31 different Blanco Tequilas, 40 different Reposado Tequilas, 31 different Anejo Tequilas and 12 Extra Anejo Tequilas as I took my time going over the extensive Tequila list. If you think I was in the Tequila heavens, you are not far off with your thinking. After introductions of tenders to the bar were offered and recepted by - Roy with the shaved head, Carl with the head of short hair and Carla, the hard working manager, I discrimately asked Roy to make mix me an Azunia Reposado Margarita which was simply "unrelenting." The hospitality was tremendous and the place was nicely packed for a Wednesday evening.

Check out "La Puerta" in the heart of the Gas Lamp District on your next San Diego getaway. www.taco619.com

Next week join us as I travel to the Northwest and visit the “home of the Space Needle” the metropolitan area of Seattle, Washington.

 Hasta Luego Amigos,

Cabo Wabo Cantina turns 20 years old; Luau in Wickenburg, AZ; Bullock vs. James; Chickenfoot

3/29/2010

?Que pasan Compadres?

What a fantastic week weather wise in Arizona. Took a nice drive out in the country, attended a fun Luau yesterday with pig and all in Wickenburg, AZ. “Cowgirl Up” artist festival was in full stride as well and one of my favorite Arizona Artista was showing and selling her works – the great Ms. Anne Coe of Apache Junction fame.

Still can't figure out why I'm sore though, I didn't compete in the hula hoop contest & I sure as heck didn't enter the limbo. Fun; but, I shouldn't ache from eating pork and drinking Clamato Bud Lights or should I? I thought barley, oats and pig skin were muscle relaxers. Word to the wise, be cautious of an innocent Luau, could be more than you bargained for.

Sammy Hagar aka Red Rocker sent his Compadre – My Bad Tequila an invitation to the 20th year birthday party / anniversary of Cabo Wabo Cantina in downtown Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on April 23rd and 24th where he’ll be performing with his “Chickenfoot Amigos” consisting of mega drummer Chad Smith, bass-ologist Michael Anthony and guitar whiz (Satch) Joe Satriani. Don’t know if I can swing it with my day job but going to give it a Cabo Wabo Tequila Try.

For those of you that are waiting for a Hollywood entry, looks as if Sandra Bullock and Jesse James take front and center. Who knows what happened, who it happened to and when it happened? Just hope thing can work things out, if not: Who cares, they’ll both survive, Sandra has her newly earned Oscar for the “Blind Side” and Jesse has room for a couple more tattoos and might be in the mix for a new reality show. I’m not going to lose any sleep over this multi-multi-millionaire couple and I’d advise for mis Amigos to do the same. We’ve all got more important things to worry about, for instance purchasing a Chickenfoot or another Jimmy Buffett CD, and there’s always looking at flight bookings to Cabo Wabo.

Duke is in the Final Four so I’ve got a mini snowball chance in He-l to win the bracket that my Amigos put together.

Tequila Time: Just came in from a nice swim this warm evening; perfect weather this weekend in Scottsdale, AZ and now it’s time for a cool cocktail involving Cabo Wabo Tequila.

Saludos Amigos,

St. Patrick's Day, Elixir in San Francisco, Fess Parker, Azunia Tequila

3/20/2010

Amigos y Amigas; hoping everyone survived St. Patrick’s Day this last March 17th and made it past the corn beef, cabbage, potatoes and Irish green dyed barley and hops. My evening of the Irish was spent in Hayward, CA at Buffalo Bills Brewery with Bartenders Marshall, Eric, Mimi, barback Elsa and waitresses Casey and Michelle.

After giving my seat up on a sold out plane for a $425 voucher, a night at the Hilton and a first class seat in 2F for the next morning’s US Airways flight back to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport I decided to spend the evening in downtown “City by the Bay.” My Bad Tequila found its way over to fellow Thunderbird graduate pal – H.’s bar the Elixir, www.elixirsf.com in San Francisco by taking the BART to the Mission and 16th train stop and walking two blocks to Guerrero and 16th to the neighborhood saloon that was established in 1858. There is a great possibility that several forty niners have shared cocktails and brews in that hundred and fifty year old structure and we’re not talking the NFL football team. March Madness was going strong as a Fundraiser by the Mission Graduates formerly St. Johns was in full court press, check out this nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. Check out this program that is reaching over 1000 children and youth each year through in-school, after-school and summer programming at: www.missiongraduates.org

H. who is on the March 2010 cover of Nightclub & Bar was very hospitable, he took down a bottle of Azunia Reposado from the Top Shelf on his fine wood bar and poured each of us a shot of that spirit that keeps my Spirit alive – TEQUILA. The night did not end there as a fun couple (Bryan and Valerie) came in from Victoria, British Columbia representing Canada and the Gold Medal Hockey Team with a special vintage Gin of Victoria Spirits, www.victoriaspirits.com

On the flight home Friday morning as I was reading my USA Today newspaper I found the sad news that Fess Parker, had passed away the night before at the age of 85 years in his California home in the wine valley. The first rodeo I had ever attended was in Nampa, Idaho at the Snake River Stampede and Fess Parker was one of the guests appearing there in the mid sixties. I received a large photo of Daniel Boone in coonskin cap with Fess Parker’s signature. After a successful career as frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, the actor Mr. Parker built a successful winery in California’s Santa Ynez Valley. The Fess Parker Winery was featured in “Sideways” the 2004 film as the Frass Canyon Winery. Fess Parker, RIP.

Tequila Time: Azunia Reposado is an excellent choice when riding the cable cars of San Francisco and before swimming to Alcatraz Island.

Tucson Festival of Books, Oregon Ducks - webbed feet or chained ankles?, Azunia Tequila

3/14/2010

Hola Amigos, ?Que Pasan?

Excited to be writing My Bad Tequila Blog again after an extended 12 day departure from writing and blogging. With the new day job taking most of my time; learning the ropes, products and customers there has been little time to spend writing to Mis Amigos. With today’s economy in the condition it is in, I am very thankful to have my Territory Sales Position. It is all good; I’m caught up and can fill you in on what is going on with My Bad Tequila.

My small entourage and I will be heading down south of Scottsdale to Arizona’s second most populated city – Tucson. I have been invited to attend the Tucson Festival of Books, one of the 10th largest Book Festivals in the World. “My Bad Tequila” novel will be showcased as coming soon, real soon under the Author’s Pavilion at the Festival. We will also be selling the booklet published and compiled by Tips Booklets “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer – 70 Tips from a Collection of Experts” of which Rico Austin is a contributing author. Excitement is surrounding this event for My Bad Tequila and staff as we have all been invited to a private Author’s Happy Hour where we’ll rub elbows with some of the most famous writers and authors of this age. I’m sure I’ll be spending the money that I make on my booklet, purchasing others’ novels.

Time to talk some sports – Oregon Ducks of the Pac 10 are back in the news, bad news that is: Jeremiah Masoli – Quarterback and expected top running Heisman candidate and delinquent Garrett Embry – former and little used receiver were convicted on counts of Second Degree Burglary and are suspended for the entire 2010 season. Seems they took it to some Frat Boys at a Frat House while attending a Frat Party. Word to the wise, don’t invite these hombres to your party, they’ll walk away with more than just your beer and pretzels. Also, LaMichael James – 2009 Pac 10 Freshman of the Year pled guilty today as well to charges of physical harassment of his girlfriend and will be miss opening day against New Mexico on September 4th, 2010. Last year it was LeGarrette Blount sending a sucker punch to the Boise State University Bronco player on opening weekend in Idaho on the Blue Turf thus ending his short season with the Ducks. What is going on with this school? Is Nike’s involvement and big bucks affecting the coaching staff’s selection of questionable characters? My vote is Yea, Nike needs to leave the Ducks to waddle and swim on their own swamp.

Tequila Time: Azunia Tequila is on my mind as I have just a few shots left of the Copper colored Anejo enveloped with Blue Agave that was sent to me by my Amigos in Newport Beach at Intersect Beverage. My Bad Tequila loves the taste of Jalisco, Mexico and Azunia Tequila. Try some today and thank me manana.

Tshirt, t-shirt, t shirt, tee shirt sales of been steady but we need your help. Go to http://shop.mybadtequila.com and order for your quick shipment. Be an ever increasing group of walking and talking billboards. Fish n Chick tee shirts maybe in more demand than ever. Don’t wait, beat the Christmas crowds.

?Que Tal Compadres?

Quite a weekend we’ve had to close out the shortest month of the year.

Friday began with an invite to the Skybox on the loudest hole in Golf; the 16th fully enclosed par 3 at the TPC in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Waste Management Phoenix Open with a new sponsor, again did not disappoint the golf fans and the social onlookers. My Bad Tequila and Amigo – Rick D. were guests of a Bank and Banker which have asked to remain anonymous, most likely because of the recent bailouts to numerous banks and insurance companies. Nevertheless, the Tequila flowed heavily in conjunction with Triple Sec, lime juice and margarita mix to insure delicious concoctions that Jimmy Buffett sings about with his gifted voice. We followed Phil Mickelson, Ryan Palmer and Ian Poulter from hole to hole before going to the skybox to join in the wave, heckling pro golfers errant shots and awarding loud cheers to the ones that landed their Titleist, Nike, Callaway and Spalding dimpled white balls on the green natural carpet. Today I watched the final round in an Irish pub called Ha Penny in Boise, Idaho. The weather did not cooperate as well as it could have during the final two days of the tournament which showed up in the total attendance figures of 426,000, down from last year’s 470,000. Only 44,000 braved the “cool temperatures” of Sunny Arizona to see Hunter Mahan win by shooting a total of 16 under, 268 for the championship. The young Hunter held off former fellow Oklahoma State golfer Rickie Fowler. Congratulations Mr. Mahan for taking the 2010 Phoenix Open trophy home.

Saturday was spent with Basque Amigo and former classmate Julian Lete at the Basque Center where Julian keeps the Coronas coming across the bar and an occasional shot of Pura Vida Tequila. The Boise Basque Center celebrated 50 years of existence and Mr. Lete autographed for my brother David, a book depicting and celebrating the history of Boise’s Basque Cultural Center which is envelopes an entire square block on Grove Street. The historic Cyrus Jacobs – Uberuaga Boarding House built in 1864 is the oldest surviving brick building in Boise, Idaho. While swapping junior high and high school stories of yesteryear in Marsing, Idaho with Julian, one of his Basque buddies, Mr. Daniel Aizpitarte a former University of Idaho Vandal football player came in for a visit. Daniel graduated from Emmett, ID where he was all-state as a tight end and defensive end in 2003. Since we’re on the subject of famous Basque athletes we’ll mention pro golfer and multiple Masters Champion, Mr. Jose Maria Olazabal. If you find yourself in Idaho’s capital city, take the time to visit the Basque Cultural Center and if you’re there towards the end of July then attend the International Basque Cultural Festival named Jaialdi and you’ll have a grand old time.

The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada has come to a close. What an incredible display of athletism and sportsmanship from all the many countries that were represented. Congratulations to all Gold, Silver and Bronze winners as well as all participants. For the first time in history the United States of America has received the most total medals in an Olympics focused on Winter Sports and Games. Fantastic finish on the overtime Gold medal Hockey Game, very fitting that the Canadian Team won Gold by a score of 3 – 2 over Southern rival and neighbor, USA. Congratulations to Canada on Gold and US on Silver.

TEQUILA TIME: Dulce Vida a 100 proof organic blue agave Tequila can best be described as “muy fuerte” meaning “very strong” Tequila flavor. Try it today, comes in Anejo, Reposado and Blanco.

Hola Amigos,
Here is my take on Politics and the Corruption we see daily from our Senate, both from the Democrat and Republican parties.

"In the late 1800s and early 1900s anyone could take what they wanted, all was needed was a fast gun and a fast horse; In the late 1900s and early 2000s anyone can take what they want if on a Senate seat and backed by a strong political party!" Rico Austin - Feb 21, 2010

When I was a kid I dreamed day and night about being an Outlaw such as Jesse James, Butch Cassidy or the Sundance Kid; often imagining having a fast horse and being able to outdraw any other cowboy, outlaw or lawman and taking any loot from a bank or stagecoach and riding like the wind to my gang’s secret canyon hideout or straight to the border south of the states – dear old Mexico.

Now forty years later, if a young boy or girl dreams of taking loot at her or his discretion, they will have elected (no pun intended) to pretend to be a Senator of the Republican or Democratic Parties, passing laws and bills that continue to help them stay financially successful, not caring about the rest of America and their constituents.

Makes me think Willie Nelson needs to rewrite his song “Mamas don’t let Your Babies grow up to be Cowboys” to “Mamas don’t let Your Babies grow up to be Senators.”

Speaking of Country and Western Icons, I was in Bakersfield, California last week and had the privilege to visit the Crystal Palace built by legend Buck Owens. The Crystal Palace boasts larger than life bronze statues of past and present Country Music Legends such as Buck Owens, George Strait, Bob Wills, George Jones, Garth Brooks, Hank Williams and everyone’s favorite Johnny Cash with a bible in his hand. There is also a statue of Elvis Presley; even though his music was not considered country, he was and still is known as the “King.”

Bakersfield earned national and international recognition with single hit title “Streets of Bakersfield” written and performed by Dwight Yoakam and his musical hero, Mr. Buck Owens. This song that put Bakersfield on the map topped the Billboards Top Hit List at number one the week of October 18th, 1988.

The Winter Olympics has been incredible thus far. Today Bode Miller finally earned and won his first Gold Medal, so far this year he has one of each – Gold, Silver and Bronze; Congratulations Bode, you make us old guys proud. Shawn White has put on a show with his snowboard and now the USA Hockey team is still undefeated at 3 – 0. Team Canada Hockey team was 2 – 0 until tonight’s very anticipated match up. The French Duo tonight in Couples Ice Skating even got into the Country and Western Act, dressed as a cowboy and cowgirl they danced and skated to “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” by the incredible John Denver, RIP. My Bad Tequila is impressed with the beauty of Canada and the competition venues set up by the Canadians. We love our Brothers and Sisters up North. Great show AAAyyyeee.

Check out the remake of Devo’s “Whip It” 30 years later. Call your Local Radio Station and Demand they play “Whip It” by Half The World and Executive Producer – Woody Nelson, my Amigo and yours!!! Download your copy of “Whip It!” visit www.A1ARadio.com

Special Thank You to Amigos - Bryce & MiRa B. of Atlanta, Georgia for taking me out to one of their favorite food joints - Fox Brothers Barbeque.

Tequila Time: Cabo Wabo is the Tequila of choice while watching the Winter Olympics as it will warm your innards and lighten the burdens which are on your mind. Sammy Hagar has personally approved Cabo Wabo and the Weber Blue Agave ingredients that help create its great taste and aroma.

Buenos Noches y Saludos Compadres Mios,

Hola Amigos,

Happy Valentine’s Day to all the Amigas that I would have Loved to have Loved. What can I say, Women and Tequila are both very close to my heart, “these are a few of my favorite things.” Today was a very incredible Valentine’s Day for MY BAD TEQUILA as first thing this morning I got some loving if you know what I mean and then came more material presents: a DVD of the movie “Catch 22” that was the cinematic adaptation of the novel by Joseph Heller, an anti-war satire of World War II that was filmed at one of my favorite places in all of the great country of Mexico. “Catch 22” with an all star cast that included Orson Welles, Richard Benjamin, Alan Arkin, Anthony Perkins, Arthur Garfunkel, Norman Feller, Martin Sheen, Buck Henry, Bob Newhart, Jon Voight and Paula Prentiss was shot on location in San Carlos, Sonora on the Playa Blanca of the Sea of Cortez with Tetakawi Mountain in the backdrop. The movie was made in 1970 and the white cotton beach is completely virgin at the time of filming. It looks much different today as there have been many additions such as an Old Club Med that is now a huge hotel and many other multistory hotels, cafes and bars on the fun beach. The movie set and location was made to look as if filmed on the Mediterranean Sea in 1944. This movie can out before Mash was ever a hit. “Catch 22” and San Carlos are both coincidentally mentioned in my upcoming novel “My Bad Tequila.”

Well back to Valentine’s Day and gifts: I also received a special 3CD edition of “Route 66, Hit the Road with Songs to Drive by.” There are some great hits including “Tequila” by The Champs, “Wild Thing” by The Troggs, “La Bamba” by Trini Lopez, “When a Man Loves a Woman” very fitting for Valentine’s Day, performed by Percy Sledge. And many, many other cool songs. Can’t wait for my road trip to Los Angeles and San Diego, California this next week. Given a card with Elvis singing a verse of “I’m all shook up,” M&M peanut candy and 2 bags of microwaveable popcorn to help get me through “Catch 22.” Just so you know, this Valentine’s Day was not one-sided. I contributed to the Hallmark celebration and cause by purchasing 1 dozen of long stemmed pink roses and a single chocolate covered brownie of which I ate half. The flowers, I must say were a hit and they do smell wonderful on this sunny Scottsdale, Arizona day. I was going to give the history of Valentine’s Day; however there are many other things of which I need to write, so perhaps next year a history lesson on St. Valentine.Oh and two other things that made today special, it is my Amigo Kurt P. day of birth and Mi Esposa and Yo received an acceptance on a house of which we made an offer. Very cool, I’m smiling from ear to ear.

Moving onto the 2010 Winter Olympics in the gorgeous area of British Columbia, Canada and Whistler Ski Resort, there is both bad news and good news. Luge racer and republic of Georgia countryman Nodar Kumaritashvili, RIP was on a practice run, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph and lost control of his sled and crashed to his death. Very sad beginning to the Olympics, well wishes to his family. Mr. Apollo Anton Ohno, one of the most recognizable current American Winter Olympians won a Silver Medal in the men’s 1500 meter event. Ohno has become the most decorated U.S. male Winter Olympian and if he wins one more medal he will surpass Bonnie Blair in becoming the most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian in history. He has won medals in 2002, 2006 and now again in 2010. Keep up the great work – Mr. Ohno of Seattle, Washington.

Today, I received sad news from London, United Kingdom that Dick Francis, a best selling British thriller writer and a former champion jockey had died in his home in the Cayman Islands at age 89. Francis was a storied steeplechase jockey until retiring in 1957 of which he then began writing novels, a total of 42 great books. Many of his stories featured racing horses as a theme. He will be missed, thanks Mr. Dick Francis, RIP for the memories.

My great Amigo, Mr. Woody Nelson and the Nashville Ramblers are heading to stardom with a new single “Got it Made” from their new album “Singin’ The Booze.” You can listen to this new single by going to: www.A1ARadio.com Wishing Woody and the Nashville Ramblers lots of great concert and fan success.

Tequila Time: Another Rock and Roll Rocker is in the Tequila business. Mr. Vince Neil, lead singer of Motley Crue has followed in the footsteps of the Red Rocker, Mr. Sammy Hagar (see Cabo Wabo Tequila) by investing in his own Tequila – Tres Rios Tequila. Tonight we will discuss the Anejo that is aged to perfection after eighteen months in charred wooden barrels. This Tequila displays a deep intense caramel color that embodies its complexity. The unmistakable taste of sweet vanilla and smoke imparted by the ageing enhances the original fruit. The result of this exclusive technique is a complex taste, balance and character that form a symphony for the taste buds. Mr. Neil, great Anejo Tequila and we love Motley Crue. By the way, Artie the One Man Party, our own CPO (Chief Party Officer) was the one that turned MY BAD TEQUILA onto this delicious and tasty Tequila. Gracias Artie, we eagerly wait for your return from Puerto Vallarta with the Smokin’ Hot Mrs. Artie.

Super Bowl XLIV, New Orleans Saints – Champions, Super Bowl Commercials, Cabo Wabo Tequila

2/9/2010

Amigos, ?que pasan en Super Bowl Sunday?
BBQ was successful and tasty, beer was cold and delicious, Tequila was Cabo Wabo and terrific. Super Bowl was well worth the preparation and anticipation. Did I mention John Daly BBQ was Super Delicious. http://www.JohnDalyBBQ.com

Carrie Underwood started out the big Show in Miami, Florida with signing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Her voice was superb as always but her costume looked like something that was taken out of Elvis Presley’s closet in the early seventies – an all white jump suit with wide, wide bell bottoms and white huge pumps. The pumps Carrie was sporting are the same that the hookers and professional dancers or strippers wear while grinding or wrapping their bodies around a pole. I hope Joan Rivers has a woman to girl chat with Miss Underwood and gives her some fashion tips.

Coin Toss is handled by new Hall of Fame NFL member Emmitt Smith and coin lands on heads which was called by the New Orleans Saints. Saints elect to receive and the game has begun. Oh, look my bottle has only a single lonely lime sitting in the bottom, go to refrigerator and problem is solved.

Commercial Time is huge for Super Bowl Sunday; Doritos was the big sponsor of the Super Bowl and had not just one but four disappointing, non-funny commercials. My advice to Doritos is to find a new ad agency because the one they are using now is not doing it. Bridgestone Tires had a great commercial with the boys in the vehicle hauling Shamu back to the ocean after a wild Bachelor party weekend – one of my favorites of the evening. Godaddy.com never can go wrong with their spokesperson and godaddy girl, Miss Danica Patrick and other hot co-stars. Jim McMahon of the Super Bowl XX Championship Chicago Bears and the Dancing Bears were back doing their super bowl shuffle – good stuff but don’t remember what the product was that they were trying to pitch or peddle. Snickers was great with Betty White playing football. End of first quarter – Indianapolis Colts 10, New Orleans Saints 0; Think I’ll have a beer, not looking good for my chosen Saints.

Start of second quarter, more commercials: Coca Cola and the Simpsons team up – so/so. Monster.com has a beaver fiddler playing his fiddle all over the country and then ends up with a babe in a hot tub in the back of a pickup. I wasn’t really sure what the message was, perhaps if a fiddle playing beaver can hook up with a hot chick in a hot tub in a busy city maybe, just maybe Monster.com can help you find a position? First Budlight commercial – can’t recall what it was about, but do remember it was no bueno. Budweiser did however come up with an original advertisement with the human bridge to help get the Budweiser Beer Truck into town for the important delivery. End of second quarter / half time: Colts leading Saints 10 – 6. Time for a shot of Tequila, things are looking up.

Bridgestone Half Time Show featuring ‘The Who’ an English band that formed in 1964 and still rocking. ‘The Who’ started their show with “Pinball Wizard” and played a fifteen song medley which included such hits as “Who are You” and “Teenage Wasteland.” Good show, although I believe CBS might have had a ratings motive behind the selection as the hit song “Who are You” is the theme song for CSI of which there are three: Las Vegas CSI, Miami CSI, New York CSI and all are on CBS. If you have a theory, same or different, MY BAD TEQUILA would love for you to share it with us.

Beer Break, beginning of the third quarter had New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez giving a plug for CBS. Then David Letterman and Jay Leno are separated by Oprah Winfrey sitting between the other two hosts in what Letterman calls “the most boring Super Bowl party he has ever attended.” The ad was geared to helping late night show with David Letterman. Career Builder then had an amusing ad with “Casual Friday” wearing no clothes, mostly underwear. Dockers then ran their ad of ‘no pants’ – should have been called ‘no good.’ Hyundai used Bret Favre as their celebrity as the future 2020 MVP – liked it. The next Bud light commercial was much, much better as it replicated the series of “Lost” on an island that had stranded inhabitants from a crashed commercial airliner. Dove for Men – didn’t know what product was being marketed until the very end, but did get to hear the tune of the Lone Ranger during the entirety. Dodge Charger – man’s last stand was very entertaining. Flowers – Teleflora.com – was alright. Hats off to Papa Johns Pizza, they remained with their message and showed the famous Chevy Camaro driven and owned by Papa John. Disney ran a piece on their new movie premiering in a few weeks with Johnny Depp in “Alice in Wonderland.” Kiss and midgets got it done with Dr. Pepper and Groundhogs Day with Steelers – Polamalu as the little groundhog that sees his shadow. FloTV used a man shopping with his wife and missing everything on television. End of third quarter Colts still leading 17 – 16 over New Orleans. Starting to get back in the Super Bowl mood, it’s going to be a great game after all.

Start of fourth quarter, more commercials and another trip to the refrigerator for a Corona. More commercials, ZDX Acura, Denny’s Restaurants – remember this Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 from 9am to 2pm a free Grand Slam Meal. Charles Barkley did a spot with Taco Bell and he looks as if he has been eating many, many burritos and keeps the nacho maker busy. Super Bowl is getting interesting, looks as if Peyton Manning is going to lead his team downfield to tie the score at 24 all. Unbelievably, Manning throws an interception that is run back by New Orleans for a touchdown. No late heroics from the Colts. Final score New Orleans 31 – Indianapolis 17. Dree Brees is selected as Super Bowl XLIV MVP. Congratulations, to the great city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, the entire Saints team and staff and MVP, Mr. Dree Brees. Fat Tuesday is about to start 8 or 9 days early.

Tequila Time: Cabo Wabo was proudly served today as the preferred Super Bowl Tequila at MY BAD TEQUILA’s Super Bowl Party. First thing this morning, I log onto Facebook and there is a drink waiting for me from who else – My Amigo, Mr. Sammy Hagar, the Red Rocker himself. Being a very well mannered human, I send him back a shot of Tequila for him to sip on. Immediately after that I receive a Tequila shot from Sammy’s look a like and my Amigo – Lance. Great way to welcome a Super Bowl Sunday.

J.D. Salinger - Catcher in the Rye, Azunia Tequila, Howard Zinn, Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga, Pink

2/7/2010

Hola Amigos, It has been a hard week on our older generation of Authors and a hectic week all seven days. We’ll start by paying tribute to two great authors, one was 92 years of age and the other was 88 years of age. We’ll then move onto less trivial matters such as the love triangle between Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Anniston. Perhaps we’ll ponder why Nicole Kidman seems to pick short guys as husbands; case in hand, ex – Tom Cruise and now hubby, Mr. Keith Urban.

Then it’s onto the Grammys and the Miss America Pageant. This morning I thought about when I first began writing as a reporter for the Eager Beaver 4-H (4 H) Club and then progressed upward, when elected as Marsing, Idaho Chapter Reporter for FFA (Future Farmers of America). I owe much of my success and passion to both of these great organizations and the advisors who gave their free time to help young men and women become better human beings both socially and personally. Gracias FFA and 4-H Clubs everywhere. If you were in 4H or FFA leave a comment telling briefly of your experiences; I’m sure most will be very positive.

Jerome David Salinger RIP born January 1, 1919 and passed on through this life January 27, 2010. J. D. Salinger was an American Author best known for his 1951 novel “The Catcher in the Rye”, of which I still have my hard book copy. J.D. Salinger was also known for his reclusiveness. His last interview was given in 1980 and his last published work was in 1965. Salinger began writing short stories while still in secondary school in Manhattan where he grew up. He published several stories in the early 1940s before serving in World War II. I remember the first time I read “Catcher in the Rye,” it was like reading something schizophrenic, my heart raced faster & faster as I read, & my eyes tried to read faster & faster to keep up with my heart - really weird! I had not read a book that affected that way before or since.

Joseph R. Tatz: a Facebook Amigo, wrote the following comment on Facebook; MY BAD TEQUILA thought it very appropriate, so I have quoted him. “Catcher in the rye was once my favorite book. (for a long time). In it Holden Caulfield talks about reading a book (I think by Ring Lardner) of which he would like to be able to talk to the author, he liked it so much. I felt that way about 'catcher', 'a new earth', and Bob Dylan's music, but I have no idea what I would actually ask them if given the chance...I actually know what I'd ask every or any one else in the world, but not them.”

Howard Zinn another American Author, historian, activist, playwright and intellectual passed away on the same day as did J.D. Salinger. Zinn was born August 24, 1922 and passed away on January 27, 2010. Howard Zinn wrote more than 20 books, which included his best-selling and influential “A People’s History of the United States.” Zinn was born to a Jewish immigrant family in Brooklyn. . His father, Eddie Zinn, born in Austria-Hungary emigrated to the U.S. before the outbreak of World War I. Zinn like Salinger also served our great country in World War II.

Okay, what is going to happen to all the children that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have adopted and birthed? I’m seeing all the newsstand magazines with an X between Jolie and Pitt and others that say Jennifer Anniston welcomes Brad back with open arms. This is not the Globe or Enquirer; these are the legit publications of People Magazine along with others. Brad could have saved himself a few years of traveling if he would have just stayed it with “Friends” Jennifer Anniston, but he would have missed all the adoption opportunities and the screaming of Angelina. “It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.”

Grammy Awards are being handed out as I write this Blog. Looks as if Beyonce and young country princess Taylor Swift are the big winners along with Lady GAGA. It would be cool if Kanye West won and Taylor went upon stage. I’m sure that won’t happen as Miss Swift seems to have a grip on polite manners. Great entrance by Pink as she twirled around upside down while water sprayed out from her as if it were torrents of sweat leaving her glands.

A photo opportunity for Nicole Kidman shows her towering above her latest and greatest husband, country singer and fellow Aussie Keith Urban. Kidman also stood a foot or so above her ex – Mr. Tom Cruise. She must have a thing for those shorter men, but as they say “Love is blind.” If Nicole is Happy, then MY BAD TEQUILA is Happy.

Congratulations to Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron who was selected as Miss America 2010. The ratings on the beauty pageants have continued to suffer in ratings as beautiful women can be seen daily by the click of a mouse. Also, I don’t think having Mario Lopez as host helps much either. I still have him pictured hanging with Screech on “Saved by the Bell” and remember is dishonesty when applying to appear on “Dancing with the Stars.” “No, I have never danced professionally nor have had any prior professional dancing instructions or lessons.” Mario – that is one of the Ten (10) Commandments, “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” I’ve always thought that the Host should be under the same scrutiny as the participants. You lie, cheat, steal or pose for nudie magazines, you are disqualified.

TEQUILA TIME – Azunia Tequila – Born in the heart of Jalisco, Mexico, lies the world’s most perfect soil and climate for growing Weber Blue Agave. Hola Mis Amigos!

This is the longest time by far that I have deserted MY BAD TEQUILA Blog. Well actually, desertion is a bit strong for my absence. I have been incredibly busy in a tremendously, incredibly, exhilarating, bubbly way. My time has been taken up by my having accepted a sales manager position for a very strong international company. Once again I will be paid for actual work performed, my days of late as a struggling artist (author, blogger) are over for now. I will continue to work on my novel of “My Bad Tequila” when time permits and to write the Blog about twice a week in my lonely hotel room while traveling. On evenings that I am not writing, socializing with customers and/or friends will take up some of my away from home nights and other eves will be in a lounge conversing with strangers, making new amigos and building new stories in my head while sipping on Tequila or a tasty Corona with its Compadre – Senor Limon.

I want to Thank all My Amigos of 44 States which make up the U.S. that have or are reading my Blog and also the Citizens of 27 different Countries. It has been a fun, rewarding 5 months since starting “My Bad Tequila” Blog. I am honored to have had over 6,000 Unique Visitors from all over the Globe. What makes this even sweeter is that I am a Thunderbird. For those of you not familiar with the term T-Bird or Thunderbird, it is a School of Global Management that has been ranked Numero Uno (Number 1) consistently, yearly since 1996 (14 years in a row) in International Business by US News & World Report. Yes, it offers an excellent MBA International Program and the Networking System is second to none. There is a phenomena we at Thunderbird call the “Thunderbird Mystique.” I can’t tell you what it is; however if you enroll at T-Bird and obtain your Master’s Degree there, you will be shown the mystery of the “Thunderbird Mystique.” If you plan on doing this, plan on taking a 2 year hiatus from your current job or family. Don’t worry you’ll get another family – I promise.

Thunderbird School of Global Management is a private business school and it was the first and the oldest graduate school specializing in international business. I live not far from campus as it is located in Glendale, Arizona about 40 to 50 miles west of Scottsdale. The school has an interesting background as it was founded in 1946 by a retired U.S. Army Air Force Lieutenant General named Barton Kyle Yount (1884-1949) RIP on a former military airbase. US Pilots and Chinese Pilots did their training at Thunderbird Field during World War II. The old flight tower is still standing and in 2006 a fund was created to restore the “Tower.” I was able to go to the dedication in October 2009 and take a tour into the tour and up the short flight of stairs – very humbled to have been able to be there and partake in the dedication.

The school celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2006 where a new mission, vision and beliefs were unveiled and announced.

Mission: We educate global leaders who create sustainable prosperity worldwide
Vision: To be the world’s foremost learning community for global managers and global enterprises
Beliefs: Global Mindset, Global Citizenship, Global Entrepreneurship, Global Thought Leadership, Global Connection

I was incredibly fortunate to be accepted and to belong to such a great Institution and to have such an outstanding International Educational experience. I served and worked as a freelance writer and journalist for two years for the school newspaper – Das Tor. By being able to do this type of writing, it enabled me to become friends with many, many incredible students from many continents. There have been students that have graduated from Thunderbird from 141 countries and the alumni count is now well over 38,000 global minded individuals.

When you pull up my “La Cantina” (Home Page) from the website
http://www.MyBadTequila.com you will see the quote:

"I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a Citizen of the World"
-Socrates | Citizen of the World & Philosopher

This is a quote I love and adhere to, that is why I am so Thankful for all the visitors from all over this spectacular world we live and breathe in. Gracias Amigos.

TEQUILA TIME: Cabo Wabo comes to mind as does my guitar playing Amigo – Sammy Hagar. Beginning tomorrow I will be cheering for my Amigo – Mr. John Daly in San Diego, California as he plays to win and make the cut at Torrey Pines on Thursday 28th of January 2010. “Hit em Straight Johnny, cause we know you’ll hit em long,”

Hola Compadres!

Another great day in 2010 as we have Amigos everywhere helping to fight Breast Cancer and to find a cure. This cancer comprises of 10.4% of all cancer worldwide among women. According to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), more than 500,000 people around the globe die from breast cancer each and every year. Each and every one of us has skin in this take no prisoners game, as there is not a person in this world that has not lost a mother, sister, daughter, sister-in-law, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, daughter-in-law, niece, cousin, neighbor or a friend to this hideous monster.

XTrainRadio.com kicked off an event yesterday 1/19/2010 called the “Breast Cancer Beatdown!” It is up and running, so please do tell all your friends and family that they are going to make this a huge party to honor those that have fallen to this awful disease and “Beatdown Breast Cancer” in 2010. Come join the event, it is also posted on Facebook or you can join at

MY BAD TEQUILA is fortunate to know such caring individuals as Woody, Jay and my dear friend Wendy, whom is a Survivor. Every year Wendy gets all her Amigos and Amigas together to walk for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, formerly known as The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Susan Goodman Komen was born on Halloween Day, October 31st, 1943 in Peoria, Illinois and at the young age of 33 was diagnosed with breast cancer and died three years later in the year 1980. Susan’s younger sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker, strongly believed that Susan’s outcome might have been better if she and her family would have known more about cancer and its treatment. In 1982 Nancy founded the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Susan’s memory. Just this last December 2, 2009 Nancy Brinker was appointed to the CEO position of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We wish you continued luck with the organization, Nancy.

Another very humane and giving person is someone that most of you know by his long drives on the PGA Tour – Mr. John Daly. Back in October 2009, JohnDalyBBQ.com launched an event devoted to awareness and funds for the Memphis-Mid South Affiliate of The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit breast cancer organization. During the entire month of this past October, John Daly BBQ donated 10% of all gross sales from every purchase make on their website to the Memphis-Mid South Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. John Daly BBQ’s COO Mr. Russ Christy was quoted as saying “This incentive creates a Win-Win situation for all parties involved. Together, we’re raising fund to help find a cure for breast cancer and helping educate people about the disease.” Not only do I respect John Daly the Golf Athlete, John Daly the BBQ World Famous Expert, but most of all I like and respect John Daly the Philanthropist. Martin Luther King Jr., Cabo Wabo - Margarita Snow Cones, Tropics Nation

1/17/2010

Hola Amigos,

Manana is Martin Luther King Jr.’s celebrated day of birth even though Mr. King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. Martin Luther King Jr. was an American clergyman, prominent leader and chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism against racial discrimination in the federal and state laws. MLK Jr. is a martyr to two Christian churches and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 and served as its first president. In 1963 King led the ‘March on Washington,’ where King gave the historic speech of “I Have a Dream.” It was at this speech that Reverend King raised public consciousness about the civil rights movement.

MLK Jr. attended Booker T. Washington High School and attended Morehouse College at the age of fifteen years without formally graduating from high school. He graduated fromMorehouse College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination by non-violent means. I personally believe that is what made Martin Luther King Jr. such an outstanding individual, ‘his bringing attention to a cause without violence, without angry words, without threats.’ This is the reason I am compelled to write about this individual on the eve before his federally recognized birthday, the 3rd Monday of January. Martin Luther King Jr. RIP was assassinated April 4, 1968.

On November 2, 1983, United States President Ronald Reagan signed a bill at the White House Rose Garden, creating a federal holiday honoring MLK Jr. The bill proposed by Indiana Representative Katie Hall, had Martin’s birthday first recognized as a holiday on January 20, 1986.

The other day I saw a large photo framed and displayed outside Blockbuster Video depicting Rosa Parks in the rear of the picture, Martin Luther King Jr. in the middle and Barack Hussein Obama out in front and his profile was larger than either MLK Jr. or Rosa Parks. I was very disappointed at seeing such a photograph, Mr. Obama has not accomplished near the feats nor the many sacrifices that bestow such greatness as Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks are to be recognized for. Shame on whoever put together that incorrect collage of individuals and double shame for putting Barack out front and center of two of the most non-selfish persons and great humans as were Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. Happy Birthday to the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

?What’s Happening Amigos?

Great things are taking place for MY BAD TEQUILA and a few of its Compadres. Let me start with
www.XTrainRadio.com , if you haven’t joined you need to hop on that Rock and Roll Train headed for Eternal Fun. For the Biggest Party on high definition stereo it is the place. Just received news from DJ Amigo – Woody Nelson that the XTrainRadio has gone 100% commercial free and will be supported wholly by You the Listener. Let’s all help them stay that way for 2010 with a small donation. MY BAD TEQUILA decided to partake in this worthwhile endeavor and gave a bit to keep the music playing and the ads a laying.

Stop in and say hello via email to Jocks – Woody Nelson, the smokin’ Veronica Tyler and Pyke. These three do it all to keep the rock tunes coming and the party going. Amigo Jay Nance keeps things straight in and out of the XTrainRadio oficinas. When on-line check out the X-Pass, this VIP Pass will put you up close and personal to your favorite band members including but not limited to AC / DC, Saliva, Cavo, AFI, 311, Kill Switch Engage, Halestorm, Chevelle and many, muchas, mas. Check out the concert dates on
www.XTrainRadio.com and see a real show in Vegas, BABY!

Moving along, let’s talk about one of my favorite golfers on the PGA tour – Mr. John Daly. I adore John for three reasons, one the guy has a heart of Gold, he has given generously to many charitable causes, most notably Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Secondly, I love the guy – John Patrick Daly because he is human and has erred many times as have some of us in this world of many temptations and pleasures. John doesn’t pretend something bad never happened, John doesn’t make excuses when he screws up, John faces the music. We all could learn a great deal from this great humane, very human of a being. He doesn’t complain, just tries to overcome the situation or as some of us refer to as addictions or better yet, demons. The Good Lord knows that I am not perfect and have had my trials and tribulations, so to me, I see John as a famous Rico. I dream of being as well known and loved as John Daly. I do however, think of all the trouble I could and would get into if I were allowed to wear John’s huge shoes for a day, a week, a month. Daly once again showed his class when given the opportunity to bash Tiger Woods as have other PGA golfers, but John took the high road with a caring comment of hoping that Woods is healthy and returns back on the Tour. “We need him…….Golf needs him badly” were the words coming from John Daly’s voice and much slimmer body due to recent weight loss. Was Tiger so kind to Daly when Daly fell off the wagon or “transgressed”? I think not, Tiger was the first to say that sort of behavior should not be allowed in and on the PGA Tour.

Mr. John Daly is one heck of an individual and a great golfer; in 1990 he was the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. Then in 1991 he won the PGA Championship and won the British Open in 1995 in a playoff with Italian Contantino Rocca at St. Andrews.

Now, have any of you tried his Barbequed Ribs? Outstanding, finger licking great, don’t want a stop till I drop, these are just some of the resounding compliments that John Daly’s BBQ receives. John Daly’s BBQ starts with top-on-line 3 down baby back loin ribs. The juices are sealed in with their own natural dry rub, the gourmet ribs are cooked low ‘n’ slow and hickory licked under strict time / temperature controls. I know your mouth is watering and you want to know where and how you can get your John Daly World Famous Memphis Style BBQ Ribs. I am going to make it easy for you, go to
www.JohnDalyBBQ.com and select your package or combination and receive an additional 15% off your order by going ordering using a promotional code that is tied with the www.XTrainRadio.com website and enter in the code SUPERBBQ by February 3rd, 2010 to receive by February 5th, 2010 for your Super Bowl Party on February 7th, 2010. Strange isn’t it how all things are related in my Blogs; sometimes it just happens and sometimes it is sophisticatedly planned out in my dangerous but gentle mind.

TEQUILA TIME: An Azunia Tequila Anejo bottle full of some of the finest Tequila I have tasted, was delivered to my doorstep on Monday afternoon. By Monday evening that bottle had been opened and I was sipping and enjoying a fine shot of Azunia Tequila, compliments of Intersect Beverage of Newport Beach, California. The aroma of the Weber Blue Agave filled my nostrils when I opened the bottle and the flavor was even more delicious that I had anticipated. I could detect a faint Oak smell from the wooden barrels that had helped age this fine and darkened Anejo Tequila. It was if I was sipping on a hundred year old richly, flavored and aged Scottish Whiskey. Magnificent is my final descriptive word. Thank You / Gracias very much Mr. Jim Riley and Mr. Kirk Gaither of Intersect Beverage. To all you Tequila Aficionados out there, order a bottle or two of this must have Azunia Tequila. A little help for my friends

Arizona Cardinals, Jon Bon Jovi, Phoenix Cardinals, Rod Stewart, St. Louis Cardinals, Larry Wilson, Chicago Cardinals, Cabo Wabo Tequila

Hola Amigos!

An incredible night at the University of Phoenix Stadium with the Arizona Cardinals taking on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC playoffs. MY BAD TEQUILA’s Cardinals defeated the Pack 51 – 45 in OT for the most points scored in a wild card playoff game, total 96 points of Offense, touchdown after touchdown, this game was anything but ho-hum or boring. What makes this Cardinal team special? You need to know the history to understand why this underdog has been the NFL red headed step child for so long. The Cardinals have been pushed around and moved from city to city for years.

Chicago Cardinals were an established club in 1898 and are the oldest continuously run professional American Football team in the United States. The Cardinals along with the Chicago Bears were two of the charter members of the NFL (National Football League) in 1920 and the only one still in operation. The only NFL Championship that the Cardinals have had in franchise history was in 1947, twenty years before the first Super Bowl was ever played.

The Cardinals moved to St. Louis in 1960 (fantastic year), the same year that an outstanding rookie named Larry Wilson, a ferocious hitting safety began playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. Larry played until 1972 and was inducted into the hall of fame in 1978. Larry’s stats included 52 interceptions, returning 5 Touchdowns and 800 yards, all while playing on the defensive side of the football. In 1999, Mr. Wilson was ranked number 43 on ‘The Sporting News’ list of the ‘100 Greatest Football Players’, making him the highest ranked player to have played a majority of his career with the Cardinal franchise. Larry was ranked #9 on NFL Network’s list of the “Top 10 Draft Steals” in NFL history as he was drafted in the seventh round in 1960 by the St. Louis Cardinals. If you doubt the toughness of Larry Wilson, consider this: Wilson played and intercepted a pass with casts on both hands due to two broken wrists. I was fortunate enough to have met Larry during a Super Bowl Party in 1996 in Phoenix when the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers met up in the ‘Valley of the Sun,’ letting the Cowboys reclaim their Super Bowl Title and once again become America’s Team.

The Phoenix Cardinals rolled into town in 1988, three years prior to my entrance into the ‘Land of the Sun’ and were the doormat to the NFC Central Division. Phoenix Cardinals didn’t even have their own stadium; they shared and paid royalties to the Arizona State University and took turns painting the field from Red and White to Maroon and Yellow during the football season. When I arrived in 1991 and went to my first ever NFL game between the Phoenix Cardinals and the New York Giants, I thought I had been transported during the waking hours without my knowledge to New York Stadium as the only colors I saw were blue, blue, blue and a different shade of blue. While ordering popcorn or beer I and a few other lonely Cardinal fans were intimidated at the (home stadium of ASU). A few weeks later I went to another supposedly home game against the Chicago Bears, again DA Bears here, DA Bears there, there was DA Bears everywhere. A few scared Cardinal fans in red, shivering in 80 degree weather as we were afraid to cheer for our sad Cardinals when a rare first down was obtained, in fear for our lives at a displaced Soldier Field in Tempe, Arizona. This went on for years, never having a 40% ratio of Cardinal Fans to opposing team fans.

The Arizona Cardinals name change was a marketing strategy to incorporate the residents of metropolitan area Tucson and out lying communities such as Flagstaff, Yuma, Show Low and Prescott to have buy in for an NFL franchise. In 1994 the Phoenix Cardinals were now the Arizona Cardinals and attendance improved at Sundevil Stadium. Still Dallas had more attending fans, Giants, Redskins, Philadelphia, Chicago, the list went on and on; however, a Cardinal Fan had a fighting chance if his group picked the right opposing fan group to (dance) with. In 1998 the Cardiac Cards made the NFL playoffs for the first time since 1947, ending the longest drought in professional sports history. Led by quarterback Jake Plummer, a second round draft pick in 1997 and a hometown favorite as he had played and started for four years at ASU and a trip to the Rose Bowl; the Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Irving, Texas. We lost the next game to the Minnesota Vikings, but we didn’t care; at last our team had made it to the post season.

In 2006 the Cardinals finally get their own football stadium in the Phoenix valley after 18 years of borrowing a fraternity’s stadium. University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona became the overnight sensation and the first Fiesta Bowl ever played there on January 1, 2007 was named the Greatest College Game of All Time.’ Undefeated #9 Broncos played #8 Oklahoma Sooners in a Double Overtime Shootout – final score 43 – 42, Broncos completing their season 13 – 0 against the heavily favored Sooners.

Jump ahead to 2008, Cardinals with a 9 – 7 record win the NFC West Division and are once again in the playoffs, this time with a large fan base following their beloved QB #13 Kurt Warner and his favorite target, wide receiver #11 Larry Fitzgerald. We make it all the way to the Super Bowl to the surprise of most; except the true Cardinal fans that have stuck by them in the valley for 20 years. Ironically, the Pittsburgh Steelers steel our victory on the last play of the game to secure their legend and six Super Bowl rings for their storied franchise.

2009 and the Cardinals again win their division, now two years in a row, are in the playoffs facing the Green Bay Packers who had destroyed the Cardinals a week earlier on Lambeau Field. MY BAD TEQUILA is there to witness the highest scoring wildcard playoff game in history, a total of 96 points. End result, Cardinals 51 to the Packers 45 points equal 96 total offensive points in an overtime game. How to add even more excitement for a long time Cardinal Fan named Rico, throw him into a suite with Rod Stewart and Jon Bon Jovi. This is the part I hate, I promised not to tell of which company I was a guest of that included these Hall of Famer Rock and Rollers into its fold. Both Rockers were dressed in red and Jon Bon Jovi sported an Arizona Cardinal ball cap, so it is safe to say, both are Cardinal fans. Then, later as I was making my way to my vehicle on foot, my dear old friend #8 Larry Wilson spots me and waves me over to chat with him and his lovely wife. What a night.

Cardinals have only retired five jerseys in three different cities: Chicago was #77 Stan Mauldin and #99 Marshall Goldberg; St. Louis has retired my great friend #8 Larry Wilson and #88 J.V. Cain; Only one lone jersey has been put away in Arizona, that of #40 Pat Tillman RIP, whom quit football and gave away a lucrative contract to serve his country as an Army Ranger. Tillman, did what he thought was best for him and his fellow countrymen, to protect Our Great Nation from terrorism.

MY BAD TEQUILA has four heroes that have played for the Cardinals: Larry Wilson, Jake Plummer, Pat Tillman and Kurt Warner.

You may be confused or ask why Kurt Warner and/or Jake Plummer? Jake Plummer - because I knew him, a fellow Boise, Idaho native; he was also a best friend of Pat Tillman at ASU and within the Arizona Cardinal organization. I played pool in a country bar honky tonk one night with Tillman and Plummer, had a great time and witnessed their closeness as true friends. Jake Plummer was devastated by the news of Pat Tillman’s untimely death, professional football no longer was the most important thing in the world to Jake and I respect that. Kurt Warner is also one of my heroes, not only for winning a Super Bowl for the St. Louis Rams and taking my beloved Cardinals to the Super Bowl last year but for being an incredible human being and taking care of and raising two children that were not his own flesh and blood. Want to read about an incredible man, Google Kurt Warner personal life and see what you get. Next time you see the Cardinals in a playoff game, think about our history and heartache of past and then you might realize why we may get a little crazy with a win.

Tequila Time: After such an invigorating night, meeting and having a margarita with Jon Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart, seeing an overtime game with the most points ever scored in a playoff game with my Cardinal team winning, topping if off with seeing a dear old Amigo – Larry Wilson I had to come home and pour myself a shot of Cabo Wabo. Only one thing would have made the night better, had my Amigo, Sammy Hagar had shared a shot of the tequila that he made famous with yours truly.

Elvis Presley & Two Related Stories, Cabo Wabo, BCS

Hola Compadres!

Special, special day for two of my Amigos from Thunderbird, School of Global Management - Chris and Susannah T. who met at Thunderbird and were both instrumental (pun intended) in the success of Global Sounds, an international music phenomena during the years of 1996 - 1998. Susannah & Chris have what we called a Thunder Relationship, they dated, they married and they mated, (I believe I have the correct order in the timeline). Today, a new little Boy entered their lives, same day as 'the King of Rock and Roll' came into this world. I hope they name him Elvis! This is the first part of the three part story of today's interesting Blog.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born 75 years ago today on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi. Elvis was an American Musician, Actor and a Cultural Icon. He was called several things including "Elvis", "King of Rock and Roll", and "the King". His musical career began in 1954 as one of founders and performers of rockabilly which combined country, rhythm and blues with a strong backbeat. Mr. Presley was the leading figure in Rock and Roll. His uninhibited and controversial performances just increased his fame as he had the great looks and one of the most beautiful voices the world had ever heard. "The King" did it all, served in the military, starred in films and recorded his successful music. In 1973 "The King of Rock and Roll" staged the first global live concert via satellite, 'Aloha from Hawaii,' seen by over 1.5 Billion Viewers. This concert broadcast remains the most watched broadcast by an individual entertainer in television history. Elvis is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth-century popular culture. He is the best-selling solo artist in the history of popular music with sales of over 1 billion albums worldwide. He has been nominated for 14 Grammys (winning 3 times) by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and received the "Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award" at the young age of 36. Four music Halls of Fame have inducted Elvis including 'The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' (1986), 'Rockabilly Hall of Fame' (1997), 'Country Music Hall of Fame' (1998), and the 'Gospel Hall of Fame' (2001). He received the 'W.C. Handy Award' from the Blues Foundation and the 'Academy of Country Music's Golden Hat Award', its first in 1984 'American Music Awards' honored Elvis with its' first posthomous presentation of the Award of Merit. Elvis Presley was scheduled to leave his home in Memphis (Graceland) on the evening of August 16, 1977, to begin another tour. Later that afternoon, Elvis (RIP) was found, unresponsive on his bathroom floor and was pronounced dead at 3:30 pm at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Graceland, in 1982 was officially opened to the public, attracting over half a million visitors annually. Elvis's Graceland is the second most visited home in the United States, just after the White House in Washington D.C. In 2006, Graceland was declared a National Historic Landmark.

Now for the third part of the story; My fellow Author, Writer and good friend Cathy P.S. was in the delivery room on August 16, 1977 ready to give birth to her daughter on the very day that Elvis left this world. Cathy shared with me the story of her and the other women that were in the late stages of giving birth all discussing the death of Elvis right up until the time each of them gave life to Newborns awaiting to visit this wonderful world we live and breathe in. Cathy also stated to me that "she believes that's the way Elvis would have wanted it, all the ladies talking about him."

Tequila Time - Cabo Wabo again is the TEQUILA of choice to celebrate tjhe birth day of Chris and Susannah's new Baby Boy and what would have been Elvis Presley's 75th Birthday. I'm sure my good friend Sammy Hagar aka Red Rocker will toast his best Cabo Wabo to this celebration of Life.

Just received a phone call from Boise, Idaho - party night going on at Kory and Michelle P.'s home with attendees Rich & Rhonda C., Tim & Stephanie; these six people went to the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona with MY BAD TEQUILA. Honorable mention to Tim & Susan B., Greg & Lisa C., Matthew B., Justin S., Doug & Dana B., Susan S., Howie H., and the Sieler Family minus Dave - Thanks to all for attending the MY BAD TEQUILA private tailgate party. Happy Premature Birthday to Rhonda - 1/10/2010; Go Arizona Cardinals!
