Amigo Jim RIP;  Kentucky Derby;  Phins to the West;  Pacquiao vs Mayweather - worst title fight ever!

Amigas & Amigos, what a crazy, incredible fun filled month with a personal tragedy that happened on the last day of May, 2015;

My ol’ Minnesota fishing Amigo Jim shot and killed himself on May 31st as he has had Parkinson’s Disease for many years and was also diagnosed with cancer.  Jim RIP

Now, let’s see – We had a lousy fight with Pacquiao vs Mayweather as I predicted in April’s Blog. And, I mentioned two fine running horses and jockeys who were competing in the Kentucky Derby and they were running 1st and 2nd at the finish line.  Below is the actual writing from last month’s Blog.

“& as I watch Amigo & fellow Boise, Idahoan Mr. Gary Stevens mount for the last time at this year’s 141st Run for the Roses on Firing Line. If You want to win some dinero, bet Firing Line to Win, Place & Show as he is sure to be 1st,  2nd, or 3rd in Louisville, Kentucky. Another great horse and jockey is American Pharoah with  last year’s winning jockey, the humble Mexican, Senor Victor Espinoza.

Also, there is a very, highly overrated boxing match which is being incorrectly billed as the “Fight of the Century.”  What a scam when 2 men split $320 million dollars to spend 36 minutes jabbing and sparring with one another in a ring inside MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada. Don’t fall as prey into purchasing for $99.95 pay per view as most bars are even going to steer away from it.”

As you can guess I am pretty pleased with  myself even though I no longer gamble or bet on such games, races, or even to purchase a lottery ticket is off limits to this “Compulsive Gambler” of which GA (Gamblers Anonymous) helped save me over eight years ago. Anything to the extreme or compulsiveness is bad news, whether it be drinking, exercising, dieting, drugs, sex – well sex can never be to the extreme unless you’re not getting any and then that is a horrible thing to have to live through, I’ve been told.

I will now predict that American Pharoah will be the next Triple Crown winner.  The last horse to win was Affirmed in 1978.  But, the horse of all horses was Secretariat in 1973 when he won the Belmont Stakes bya record 31 lengths - The winning time of 2:24 remains a record to this day  -  An Incredible Horse that ran like a fine tuned Machine!

Where oh Where have I  been – Vegas Baby was great as I stayed at the Hilton Elara property which was incredible, saw my Amiga Kim Pinnegar of the Twins Dueling Pianos at Harrah’s and some other beauties scantily clad in bikinis after 12:00 midnight, the cold air conditioning of the casino did do wonders for their body accentuation if you know what I mean.   I also got to visit my Cabo Amigo Mr. Lou Dezarn who is the Engineer at #6 Fire Station in Las Vegas.  A great dinner was shared with all the firefighters of that station and Rico donated 3 of his books to the fire station and those brave men that answer the call no matter what the danger.   True Heroes!

Next stop Laughlin, Nevada for the Phins to the West concerts, dances and silent auction all at the Aquarius Resort & Casino.  Many great performers including my Amigo Mexico Mark Mulligan from San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico along with other favorites Bob Karwin, The Boat Drunks, Jerry Gontag, Thom Shepherd, The Hula Girls, Southern Drawl Band, Don Middlebrook & the CalypsoNuts.  Great artists all of the Trop Rock genre. Got to see many of my old music loving Amigas & Amigos and met lots of new ones as there were folks from three different countries and 18 different states including on the way across the US into the Northeast – Maine was represented as was many, many more.  Most came from Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and Texas because of the proximity to the little gambling town on the Colorado River.

I also had the opportunity to give an interview about the epic, bestselling novel “My Bad Tequila” with Radio A1A hosted by Mr. Dave Burks. “Music for the Road to Paradise” which is broadcasting 24/7 from the Florida Keys.  A phucking phantastic weekend was had by all the Parrotheads and Jimmy Buffett is still the King.

Next stop, San Carlos, Mexico with Amigos & Amigas Abby & Kim, Matt & Charlotte, Tony & Gerie with stops in to see Mike at Club de Capitanes and favorite patron & cowboy Tommy Pinnell.  Then onto Hammerheads Dockside Bar and Grille where always a pleasure to see Troy and Noreen and there incredible staff including Oscar – he ain’t no Grouch. We had one late noche with birthday boy Joey from Tucson who turned 23 years young, Shane his brother-in-law, Abby,  Matt and myself stayed out until the early dawn hours traveling to the Edge and Tequilas where we ran into my Amigo Caeser who kept the cervezas rotating in all directions.

Had the opportunity to hang with Char, Chad, Brittany & Rose on their sailboat - First Step for late night gazing at a full moon and then next evening we went to a birthday party for Amigo Mike and his wife Melissa with a Mexican Blues Band and I loved it when the lyrics came out, "I woke up this morning and I got myself MY beer."   Later that night a huge bon fire next to the Sea of Cortez - trust me, life doesn't get any better than that!

As if this isn’t enough, join  me next month  as I travel to the Wynn in  Las Vegas to celebrate mi Cumpleanos of I’ll give you a hint.  Sammy Hagar wrote a song, “I can’t drive 55.”

Until then, Vayan con Dios and be kind to your fellow man and woman.

I’ve nearly finished writing "Mexico got Lucky," a true story about a kidnapped dog in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.    I have begun writing "BAJA Crazy, 4 Dusty Days and Wild Nights on the NORRA Mexican Trail" of which I hope to have completed and published by end of 2015.   Both of these reads are going to again be "Classic Rico Austin writing" with more twists and turns than ELVIS PRESLEY had in "Son of the KING, an ELVIS Paradox Unveiled."
