Que pasan Amigas y Amigos?
Another fun month behind us, a Birthday month for me! I’ll give YOU a clue as to how many years I’ve now celebrated: Sammy Hagar had a hit song, “I can’t drive 55!” What still can’t figure it out, OKAY, how about Double Nickels! No MAS Clues for YOU!
Was able to celebrate in style at the Wynn in Las Vegas, BABY! I’d never had the opportunity to stay at the WYNN before and it was everything I thought it would be, including the European Pool aka Topless Pool for lounging and gawking. Of course I had my dark glasses on so my eyes could see everything without me being seen, eyeing the tatas, boobs, chi chis, titties or whatever You want to call them. For some reason, men love seeing em and women love showing em!
I had dinner at Caesar’s Palace in a great restaurant Joe’s Seafood, Prime Rib & Stone Crab with a little cake & ice cream treat at the end of a wholesome meal, picture at the end! Then it was over to Harrah’s at the Jack Daniels Dueling Piano Bar to see Amigas & Twins, Kim & Tamara Pinegar & Amigo Conrad Hawthorne – Performers & Great Pianists!
After all the fun and games, knee surgery awaited me on June 10th, recovery is doing great, it has been nearly three weeks and all is well. The crutches were tossed within a couple of days and therapy has began and to be continued for a while.
The U.S. Open was a trip to watch on one of the worst golf courses of which a U.S. Open has been held. The 2015 United States Open Championship was the 115th U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in University Place near Tacoma on the shore of Pugent Sound. In this golf tournament we had everything: a railroad with live trains passing through all the time, a super dry course in usually wet Northern Washington, several lead changes by more than a few golfers, a Tiger Woods meltdown, Ricky Fowler leaving the course with his new Amigo Tiger and a list of new records broken by the young 21 year old golfer from Texas.
Yes, Jordan Spieth became the youngest golfer to win the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year. Jordan is also the youngest U.S. Open champion since Bobby Jones in 1923.
There was one, well two draw backs to this tournament, (1) Dustin Johnson three putting within 12 feet from the hole. Dustin hit a five iron on the final hole, the par-5 on the 18th. He punched his eagle putt for the win, 3 feet past the hole, then missed the three footer coming back to give Jordan Spieth the title. I felt horrible for Dustin as his family looked on which included father-in-law Wayne Gretsky, hockey great. I do admire Mr. and Mrs. Dustin Johnson as he walked to the clubhouse, his wife joined him and handed him his little girl to hold which brought a huge smile to Dustin’s face. After seeing that, it made me a Dustin Johnson fan and my hurt for him a little larger. (2) After the poor showing of a golf course that rewarded some bad shots and penalized great shots, it is doubtful the Northwest will again be given the opportunity to host the U.S. Open. Sure wish they had done a better job, but no crying over spilled milk or bad, horrible greens that cause a great golfer like Dustin Johnson to three putt within 12 feet from the hole. I, too am guilty of this and have done before because of shitty greens, shitty putters and perhaps, because I am a shitty golfer.
Back to traveling and exploring the Southwest, a flight to El Paso, renting the dirtiest car I’ve ever rented in my 30 + years from Thrifty. It was so more dusty and dirtier than the other cars that I actually took a photo for proof. I then drove this dirty little car to Ruidoso, New Mexico to see San Carlos, Mexico Amigo Mark Mulligan perform at the White Mountain Pavilion. Great show, and I was able to meet his two oldest sons Marco and Luis who are both mentioned in Mark’s incredible book, The Three Miracles of which you can purchase at this site on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Three-Miracles-Mark-Mulligan/dp/1496121694/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1435786802&sr=8-2&keywords=mark+mulligan
On the way to Ruidoso I drove past Oro Grande, NM and on the way back to El Paso, the National Park of White Sands. New Mexico is a very diverse and beautiful state. El Paso, well is El Paso with an Army base and dust, lots of dust. Did I mention my dusty rental car?
I watched some Women’s Soccer matches of which rarely have I done. Saw U.S. Women’s team eek out a win 1 - 0 over China and then in the Semi Finals a 2 – 0 win over number one ranked Germany in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Now the U.S. women’s team awaits their challenger, the United Kingdom or Japan! I would say that the U.S. Women’s team should be favored and they need to stay focused. Keep goalie Hope Solo out of the bar and brawls and we’ll be alright. Solo has not allowed a goal since its opening match against Australia on June 8th in the 27th minute and has now shut down opponents for 423 straight minutes. Quite a feat! Stay Strong U.S. Women Soccer Team!
Next month, celebration of America’s birthday, the 4th of July!
And, last night I just sent to the publisher my latest book, “MEXICO got LUCKY!” You’re gonna love it!
