Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!
I want to write and to let you in on a great place in Mexico. It is the San Carlos / Guaymas, Sonora area along the Sea of Cortez. I first discovered this place on a Spring Break trip from Boise State University in Idaho. There were 19 students, 3 chaperones and a bus driver on a March 1986 vacation. It is of this first trip down to Mexico that 70% of the epic, award winning, adventure & mystery novel “My Bad Tequila” is written.
Well almost 20 years later my wife Connie and I go back down and buy a vacation condo. One holiday we were down there and one of our neighbors that had a condo down there too asked us if we had anything to donate for the orphanage as Gerri and her husband Tony were driving over to the orphanage which is about 10 – 15 miles from our condo near the beautiful blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. We had a little food, but that was about it because we knew nothing of this place for children without families.
On our next trip we brought down children’s clothes and young adult clothing as the age ranges are from newborn to senior in high school. We also brought some food and were able to meet the children, only the young ones that were not school age yet as we stopped in during late morning. The children are adorable, loving and well mannered. On that first trip the ladies caring for the children thought we were there to adopt and brought out all the newborn babies and toddlers for us to look over. As much as we would have wanted to take one home, that was not are reason for being there. All the caregivers spoke Spanish and I know conversational Spanish so we were able to communicate that we were only interested in donating clothes and food.
One of the most memorable stops was when we brought cereal and toys. One of the brands was Fruit Loops and as soon as one of the young toddlers saw the Fruit Loop box he became very excited, jumping up and down and smiling while clapping his hands. The ladies there had never seen Fruit Loops nor had any of the other children except this young boy who was about three years of age. Somewhere in his past life before being in the orphanage he had either seen Fruit Loops advertised or had eaten them because that was brand recognition to the Nth degree. Of course we had to open the box right then and all the children loved the cereal without the need of milk. It was like candy to them. So now each time we visit we try to take new fun cereals along with Fruit Loops.
Well now comes the sales pitch on a way you can help the orphanage and get a great Christmas or Hanukkah gift (a great read) for that special someone or treat yourself.
This year I will be donating 100% of my proceeds from eKindle book sales on Amazon.com from today (Thanksgiving Eve) & (Hanukkah Eve) until Christmas Eve for purchasing food, clothing & TOYS, lots of fun TOYS for the Kings Kids Orphanage! My books are “My Bad Tequila,” “In the Shadow of ELVIS, Perils of a Ghostwriter” & “ARIZONA Is Where I Live.” I have just finished on Thanksgiving night, “Son of the KING, an ELVIS Paradox Unveiled,” and am now in the editing stages with hopes of it being published in January 2014. Below is the website of the Orphanage if You would want to make a direct donation! May GOD Bless US All & Remind US of how fortunate WE are & to Count Our Blessings Each & Every Day! Happy Thanksgiving! Feel Free to Share, more sales = more TOYS! http://kingskidsorphanage.com/
