Van Halen, BCS picks, Arizona Cardinals

Amigos, as our first weekend in December comes closer to an end, Van Halen makes for a good topic band as my good friend Sammy Hagar was once an integral part of their history.

Van Halen named after 2 of the brothers that came over from Amsterdam, Holland aka The Netherlands when young boys - Eddie Van Halen & Alex Van Halen.  This band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972; as of 2007 have sold 90 million albums worldwide and have had the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.  During the 1980s they also had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other heavy metal or hard rock band. This band has not been without it's controversy among their lead singers of David Lee Roth during the years of 1974 - 85 and then reunion 2006 - 2009, the hits during this era of - Van Halen I were "Jump" and "Panama."  Sammy Hagar, my Favorite of the 3 rotating lead singers was with Van Halen II during 1985 - 1996 after leaving Montrose and reunioned up 2003 - 2005 with hits such as "I can't drive 55" and "Why can't this be Love?".  Gary Cherone was during the Van Halen III era from 1996 - 1999.  Gary Cherone was the only one of the former three lead singers that left at good terms.  Both Hagar aka "Red Rocker" & Roth aka "Diamond Dave" had words with Eddie Van Halen upon their departures both privately and in public appearances.  What is amazing is the both of these great flamboyant lead singers rejoined Eddie and brother Alex after such hard and bitter arguments.

David Lee Roth just recently married again and as soon as Wolfgang Van Halen which is Eddie's son graduates high school, they are back on tour.  Wolfgang replaced longtime bassist Michael Anthony that has now rejoined with Sammy Hagar and his new band Chickenfoot which also stars Joe Satriani aka Satch and Chad Smith, former drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  I was fortunate enough to see them perform live in concert at Dodge Theater in Phoenix, Arizona where Cabo Wabo was served for a price.

Sammy Hagar recently sold 80% of his Cabo Wabo Tequila for $80 million smackaroos in 2007, showing what an astute businessman the "Red Rocker" really is.  He still owns Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico that helped market the brand. Being a Tequila Hombre myself, I have a unique respect for Sammy and someday hope to have a partnership of some means with him.  "Donald Trump has nothing on Sammy Hagar in the business arena" - Rico Austin;

BCS got it right this year with BCS (Bowl Championship Series) Bowls: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Texas Longhorns for the Championship in Pasadena, California.  My favorite matchup and team, Boise State University Broncos vs. TCU Horned Frogs in my state of Arizona at University of Phoenix in Glendale, Arizona.  Special thanks to Great Friend Matt B. who offered last night to purchase tickets for My Bad Tequila if Boise State Broncos were invited to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.  His offer was made at his home in Chandler, AZ last night while watching his Nebraska Cornhuskers play the Texas Longhorns for the Big 12 Championship, when he still had hope of the upset, ALMOST happened - super game.  Thanking Matt in advance.  Lucky for him, his employer is the "University of Phoenix" so I'm hoping to be on the field once again with my Broncos.  Sugar Bowl picks were Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Florida Gators (don't think Tim Tebow gets the Heismann) in New Orleans, Louisiana - that could spell trouble for one of those teams or both as there is a lot of fun and trouble to see in Na Orlans!  Rose Bowl will host PAC 10 Champion - Oregon Ducks (of which Boise State manhandled earlier this year) vs the always over rated Ohio Buckeyes, champions of the Big 10. Orange Bowl matchups pit Iowa Hawkeyes vs Georgia Tech in the Miami, Florida area.  Lots of great matchups.  My picks are the teams that are mentioned first in each of these matchups.  Can't wait for all these Bowl games.

Arizona Cardinals and Mr. Kurt Warner (age 38) beat Minnesota Vikings and Mr. Bret Favre (age 40) tonight on NFL Sunday Night Football in Glendale, AZ, same arena that will host the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.  This was the battle of the two most mature Quarterbacks in the NFL. If the Cardinals play like they did tonight, expect them to show up again in the Super Bowl.
