Phil Mickelson is our esteemed guest today, former Arizona State University Golfer and 3 time Major PGA Championship winner. Once labeled as the "greatest golfer without a major golf championship" Phil has quieted the naysayers. Mr. Phil Mickelson has been my favorite golfer since watching him play as a collegiate athlete (yes, Golfers are athletes) for the ASU Sundevils. He replaced Greg Norman on my list as soon as he became a professional, although Phil did win his first PGA Tour Tournament as an amateur winning the Northern Telecom Open in 1991. Mr. Phil Mickelson won three NCAA individual championships and three Haskins Awards, in 1990, 1991, 1992. Also known as "Lefty" for his left handed swing, even though he does everything else right handed.
Phil is fun to watch, he is the only player other than perhaps Tiger Woods who can be back 8 - 10 shots and end up winning a golf tournament. Phil has also had his collapses, by continuing his aggressive golf ball striking and not playing it safe, has cost him a few Championships; but, that is why I love Phil, "What will Phil do next?" This last year has been tough on Phil personally as his famous wife - Amy, once a Phoenix Suns Cheerleader was diagnosed with Breast Cancer as was Phil's mother. I Thank Goodness, they are both doing much better and let's hope and pray it stays that way for the Mickelson Family. I have been fortunate to have watched Phil play several times as an amateur and as a professional as he is always present at the FBR Open (formerly Phoenix Open) at Scottsdale TPC, labeled "the Greatest Show on Grass." This year will be the 75th anniversary where the "loudest hole in Golf" is located - 16th hole - Par 3, and afterwards the wild Scottsdale night life at the Bird's Nest where the hottest women on earth dress to the tee hoping to snag a professional golfer who doesn't make the cut and wants to party in the grand tent with all the pretty people. The Bird's Nest has been the cause of more than one divorce on and off the PGA Tour as participants get into the action and music provided by the perennial act of "Duck Soup." This venue makes it possible for oldies but goodies like KC and The Sunshine Band to perform. If you've never attended, you are missing "THE PARTAY."
Since we're on the topic of Golf, how is it that Tiger Woods can hit a fire hydrant, crash into a tree in his neighborhood right outside his home at 2:33 am in the early morning, and be able to shun the police questionaire. You or I would be in lockup for many days until we confessed that we were being attacked by an angry wife with a weapon - golf club. How ironic is it that Tiger Woods is beat by one of his own sticks by his former model wife - Elin Nordegren! Rumor has it that Tiger was putting in the wrong hole and Elin was having no part of it. Evidently, Tiger is making rounds and turning the back nine off the course and on. I think he could have made a better getaway in his souped up golf cart from his Windermere, Florida - 2.5 million home. I figured Tiger would have about a 25 million dollar home, sounds like he's hoarding his Buick, Nike, and PGA money somewhere. Perhaps, he's saving up to buy Elin a really nice ring or necklace (see Kobe Bryant incident in Vail, Colorado) when he messes up or around. One thing I have to say is Tiger is smart, he chose not to make up a story as he didn't want to have to face perjury charges later on and he has not ratted out his wife. If he told the truth about Elin, then he has to explain why she was swinging his clubs freely at his skull and even broke out the window. The airbags did not go off so why did she have to bust the window, because Tiger was in the car and she needed to tee off. I don't think I want to play in their threesome or foursome.
