Hump Day Wednesday is upon us! Also known as Camel or Dromedary day for places in the Middle East and parts of Africa.
Hilton is our topic today for the letter H. No, we're not going to talk about Paris Hilton or sister Nicky Hilton; This is the real Hilton - Conrad Hilton, the most famous Hilton that started the Hilton Hotel Chain. Conrad Hilton lived a very interesting life as he was born December 25, 1887 (Christmas Baby) and passed away January 3, 1979 RIP at the age of 91. A must read is Conrad's "Be My Guest", it doesn't claim to be an autobiography but might as well, for it tells of his life from his beginnings in the little town of San Antonio, New Mexico. He attended and was educated at the New Mexico Military Institute, at St. Michael's College (now College of Santa Fe), and the New Mexico School of Mines (now New Mexico Tech). He was a Republican Representative in the first legislature of the newly formed State of New Mexico of which he played a great part in New Mexico gaining statehood.
His dad - Augustus Halvorson Hilton (1854 - 1919) RIP was an immigrant from Norway and owned the first automobile in the Territory of New Mexico. Oddly enough that vehicle was also the cause of his death as he ran it into a canal and was killed in the first automobile accident in the State of New Mexico. His mother - Mary Genevieve Laufersweiler (1861 - 1947) RIP was an American with German roots.
Conrad Hilton had come from riding a horse to school to marrying Zsa Zsa Gabor and living in Hollywood, having a daughter -in-law named Elizabeth Taylor. I believe he saw it all, beginning from a small boarding house to have hundreds of hotels around the world. Conrad spoke highly of all three of his wives in "Be My Guest" even though Zsa Zsa Gabor has her stories as well as 9 different husbands. Her latest incident has been the $10,000,000 loss to Bernard Madoff.
Eldest son, Conrad Jr. aka Nicky Hilton married 18 year old Elizabeth Taylor, it was a first marriage for both but only lasted 205 days before ending in divorce and that included a 3 month long European Honeymoon. Gives a new meaning to "National Lampoon's European Vacation," Nicky Hilton would die 11 years later RIP so he never fully inherited the Hilton Hotel Chain. Elizabeth Taylor was never slowed as she went onto wed another 7 times for a total of 8 husbands. One short of her sort of, kind of Mother-in-Law Zsa Zsa. What a life, what a story. I even sent my mother a copy of "Be My Guest" to read and she loved it, so will you. But I know, you're saving your beach reading and eyes for "MY BAD TEQUILA" novel. Thanks, I appreciate that!
Well, I received a very nice private note by a facebook friend and fellow author concerning yesterday's Blog. She is going through some tough times and accidentally hit the wrong button on her computer keyboard and my Blog popped up and all she saw was GOD is Great. At the time she was waiting for a call from her Doctor for good or bad news. I haven't heard from her since, but she wrote that it made her feel much better and gave her more faith. WoW! Linda, all our Prayers go out for you.
You didn't think we were going to go 2 days without a Tequila recommendation did you?
Acumbara Tequila Silver is triple distilled, straight from the still. The Acumbara Tequila Anejo is aged two years in oak barrels. The bottles are all artisan hand crafted. If you want to visit the distillery, Amatitan, Jalisco, Mexico awaits you.
Sol de Mexico - makes Premium Tequila from 100% Blue Agave; Tequilas are offered in three varieties - Blanco Tequila, Reposado Tequila and Anejo Tequila. I've mentioned this Tequila before and I need to mention again, as it will grow in popularity due to it's smooth taste. "Sol de Mexico" translates to "Sun of Mexico" a great play on words as Tequila is actually "Mexico's Son or Son of Mexico." www.soldeMexico.com
