Mr. Chris LeDoux, first and foremost was an American Cowboy and Legend and a Great Human, secondarily, he was a Singer, Songwriter and Recording Artist. Chris LeDoux was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, located on the Gulf Coast on October 2, 1948 and entered into rest March 9. 2005 - RIP, in Casper Wyoming due to complications from a lengthy battle with a rare form of liver disease. I remember that March day when I learned one of my heroes had gone, I cried and put in his CD and played it over and over. I was fortunate enough to see Chris LeDoux 3 times live in concert, all three times in a small, close venue. The first time I witnessed Chris playing his rodeo lived theme songs was in Laughlin, Nevada. I was staying in Don Laughlin's personal suite at Laughlin's Riverside Casino and Hotel on the top floor overlooking the Colorado River. I went to the outdoor show that featured Mr. LeDoux and marveled at his performance. I would get the opportunity a few years later to again see Chris preform at The Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado. The show was so great, that I purchase a ticket for the next night's performance as well. Never before or since have I went to the same concert 2 nights in a row. With Chris, I'm glad that I did!
Chris Ledoux had 5 milestones in his Rodeo career,
1. in 1964 - Little Britches Rodeo Bareback - World Championship
2. in 1967 - Wyoming State High School - Bareback Bronc Championship
3. in 1969 - National Intercollegiate - Bareback Riding Champion
4. in 1976 - Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association - Bareback World Championship
5. in 1984 - Officially retired from Rodeo competition
Chris took up professional rodeoing in 1970 and to help himself "pay to play the game," starting writing songs about the rodeo lifestyle. In 1976 after winning the World Bareback Riding Championship at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City , he gained credibility with country music audiences, showing the cowboy songs he wrote and sang were for real. Garth Brooks helped shoot Chris LeDoux to national prominence by mentioning Chris in his country hit "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)."
Just a few months after his death, Chris LeDoux was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. He was the first person ever to be inducted in two categories: 1. for his bareback riding and 2. in the "notables" for his contributions to the the sport through music. The Academy of Country Music awarded to LeDoux the Pioneer Award in 2005 and his great friend Garth Brooks accepted the award on behalf on Chris' family. Later that year, Garth recorded "Good Ride Cowboy." Later that year LeDoux was honored with CMA Chairman's Award of Merit, presented by Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn. That same evening at the 39th Annual CMA Awards Garth Brooks preformed the song he had written for Chris. "Long Live Chris LeDoux!"
Arizona Cardinals are trying to make it three wins in a row versus St. Louis Rams. Strange since Cardinals originated in Chicago, transferred to St. Louis and now are the Arizona Cardinals. I'm sure this time of year, when the snow is falling in Chicago and St. Louis to be in Arizona. Kurt Warner and gang will be performing their Sunday best, I'm sure.
Since it is L day, there is one person I could think of that had a double L in her name - Linda Lovelace, whatever happened to the "Deep Throat" porn actress. Linda Susan Boreman was born January 10, 1949 in the Bronx, New York City. She was famous for the 1972 hardcore porn film, later she denounced her pornography career and then became a spokesperson for the anti-pornography movement. Who says a Tiger can't change it's stripes or colors, or whatever it is they say? Linda was in a violent car accident , requiring her to undergo a blood transfusion, which in turn would lead to hepatitis of which she eventually passed away on April 22, 2002 RIP.
