It's just another Manic Monday, I wish it was Sunday, Cause that's my fun day - as the Bangles would sing!
Fred Flintstone and the Flintstone gang are special guests today for the Letter F; Fountain Hills Festival of Arts & Crafts honorary mention.
Yabba Dabba Doo!! Any of us that have watched cartoons (all of us) have heard that phrase made famous by Fred Flintstone, the prehistoric animated character that lived and worked in Bedrock, but faced the problems of contemporary working-class life. Fred & Wilma, the perfect stone-age couple and best friends Barney and Betty Rubble were inseparable, no funny business or wife swapping in this great family style cartoon. After working all day at the Rock Quarry, Fred and Barney would race home in the vehicle with stone wheels and foot powered. Fred & Wilma had Dino the Dinosaur and a saber tooth tiger as their family pets. Later on in the series Pebbles appears as the Flintstones' daughter and Bamm Bamm is the adopted super strong baby of the Rubbles. Years later they would have their own show as teenagers and lovers.
The Flintstones was the very first animated situation comedy shown in prime time television and it gained outstanding ratings in its first season. 166 Episodes were produced by Hanna - Barbera (William Hanna and Joe Barbera), premiering on September 30, 1960 on ABC, it ran for six seasons with the final episode airing on April 1, 1966. (Not a good April Fool's Day joke!)
Little known fact: The Flintstones was patterned after "The Honeymooners" starring Jackie Gleason. (Speaking of Jackie, I want to wish my cousin Happy Birthday.) Originally designed for the entire family, the program eventually did appear as 'Children's Television" when rebroadcast by NBC in 1967. This cartoon also broke ground in that each episode contained only one story that lasted the entire half hour. Until the 1960s, cartoons were generally only a few minutes long. Although The Flintstones were canceled in 1966, the series has continued to have a strong afterlife in syndication. Long Live Fred Flintstone!! Yabba Dabba Doo !!!
This weekend, Nov. 13, 14, 15 was the Fountain Hills Festival of Arts and Crafts which feature nearly 500 artists, artisans and gourmet food provisioners. Where is Fountain Hills? It is a beautiful retirement community just East of Scottsdale and hosts the largest man-made Fountain in the Western Hemisphere. Lots of fun; however, I don't like the idea of renting scooters as this festival does, wheelchairs I agree with as some folks can not walk long distances. If you already have your own scooter then bring it as I have a beautiful cousin named Sophie (loved the book Sophie's Choice) that needs one to get around, but wherever she goes so does the scooter. She knows how to operate one correctly and safely, does it daily. Some of the elderly senior citizens that rented scooters this last weekend, had never been on one except maybe a larger model that serves as a large shopping cart in Albertson's, Fry's or Safeway Food Stores where the aisles are wide and are not filled with over 200,000 attendees and pets that wished their masters would have opted for them to stay at home for the day. Wheel chairs are controllable and people powered, scooters are motor driven and powered. I witnessed 3 different episodes of runaway scooters into crowds of people. I ran the other way so I do not know for sure how many were injured.
This may be our longest Blog yet to date: Still need to discuss the great Sunday Night Football Game with the super hero Indianapolis Colt - Peyton Manning overtaking the Patriots led by competent Tom Brady. Patriots leading my 13 points midway through the 4th quarter, many fans of Indianapolis Colts had left the stadium and television sets around the country were turned off or switched to another channel. Many fans were pleasantly surprised or very pissed off this morning when watching the early news, reading the sports section or socializing over coffee. Bill Belichick, be assured is second guessing himself going for it on fourth down instead of punting. I'm not saying anything, as I've made my share of stupid decisions.
Tequila Time: 901 Tequila, "it's always smooth", "it's always authentic", "it's always beyond compare", plus Justin Timberlake and MY BAD TEQUILA love it. Rico of MyBadTequila.com comments, "I could sip this smooth 901 Tequila all night and into the morning. Try 901 Tequila today and find out what the commotion is all about!"
Monday Night Football is happening as I finish this Blog. Brady Quinn and his Cleveland Browns are hosting the Baltimore Ravens on ESPN. I did get to watch Hank Williams Jr. do his "Are You Ready for some Monday Night Football" song.
